Stockton Cricket Club is an English cricket club which plays at Grangefield Cricket Ground in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham. The club currently plays in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League (NYSD). the club field three adult sides and a number of age-group teams, including a Twenty20 under-19 team called Stockton Swifts. History Established in 1816, the club moved to its current location, the Grangefield Cricket Ground in 1891. The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League (NYSD) was established in 1893, the club first playing in its 1896 league. The club's 1st XI won the league in its second year of the NYSD. The team subsequently won in 1948 and 1975. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Grangefield Cricket Ground
The Grangefield Ground is a multi-purpose sport grounds located in Grangefield, Stockton-on-Tees, England. It focuses on cricket and rugby union. It is the home of Stockton Cricket Club since 1892 and Stockton Rugby Football Club since 2015. The rugby club came after a 67-year stay at the Norton Sports Complex. Grounds Rugby Stockton Rugby Football Club moved to The Grangefield Ground in 2015. The lease included the use of the indoor facility (which includes four changing rooms and a multi-purpose sports hall), and (initially) three rugby union pitches behind The Grangefield Academy school (which is The Grangefield Ground) whereas the clubhouse is located over the road on (community partner) Stockton Cricket Club's ground, where another 2 junior rugby union pitches are located. Stockton-on-Tees
Stockton-on-Tees, often simply referred to as Stockton, is a market town in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It is on the northern banks of the River Tees, part of the Teesside built-up area. The town had an estimated population of 84,318 in 2011. It is included in the Tees Valley mayoralty. The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League, commonly abbreviated to NYSD, is the top level competition for recreational club cricket in the north of Yorkshire and south of Durham, England. The league was founded as long ago as 1892, the first competition was held in the following year. The league chose to play an official, if shortened, competition after most ECB Premier Leagues formally cancelled the 2020 season due the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a successful league in the country, in national inter-league competitive cricket, having won the LCC National inter-league competition (latterly known as the Presidents Trophy) on no fewer than 12 occasions. The League hold the record for the longest sequence of consecutive titles (7 from 1988 to 1994) and the longest sequence of consecutive victories (36). Twenty20
Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs.
