Still Waters (russian: Тихие омуты, Tikhie omuti) is 2000 Russian romantic comedy-drama directed by Eldar Ryazanov. Plot Anton M. Kashtanov (Alexander Abdulov) is a talented surgeon and head of a large clinic. He decides to escape his domineering and bad-tempered wife Pauline in the village of Still Waters. Here he reconnects with his childhood friend, the head of the local nature reserve. This pastoral idyll is unsettled by one matter: at the time of Kashtanov's departure two million dollars have disappeared from his foundation. Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov (russian: Эльдар Александрович Рязанов; 18 November 1927 – 30 November 2015) was a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, poet, actor and pedagogue whose popular comedies, satirizing the daily life of the Soviet Union and Russia, are celebrated throughout the former Soviet Union and former Warsaw Pact countries. Biography Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov was born in Samara. His father, Aleksandr Semyonovich Ryazanov, was a diplomat who worked in Tehran. His mother, Sofya Mikhailovna (née Shusterman), was of Jewish descent. In 1930, the family moved to Moscow, and soon his parents divorced. Olga Vladimirovna Volkova (russian: Ольга Владимировна Волкова; born 15 April 1939 in Leningrad) is a Russian theatre and film actress. She began her career at the Bryantsev Youth Theatre in Leningrad. She appeared in more than ninety films since 1968.
