Stew Johnson
Stewart "Stew" Johnson (born August 19, 1944) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6'8" (2.03 m) tall forward/center from Murray State University, that was born in New York City, Johnson was selected by the New York Knicks in the third round of the 1966 NBA draft. However, Johnson never played in the NBA, joining the rival American Basketball Association instead. College career Johnson broke the color barrier as the first black varsity basketball player for a four-year program in the southeastern United States (not including historically black colleges and universities), as he suited up for Murray State University of the Ohio Valley Conference in 1963. In his three seasons of varsity basketball at Murray State, he played in 76 games and averaged 16.8 points averaged 12.9 rebounds while shooting for a .417 field goal percentage and a .731 free throw percentage. 1974–75 ABA Season
The 1974–75 ABA season was the eighth season of the American Basketball Association. The Kentucky Colonels won the 1975 ABA Championship after winning the Eastern Division; the Denver Nuggets won the Western Division. Julius Erving and George McGinnis shared the league's MVP award. Preseason Prior to the start of the season the Eastern Division changed as the Memphis Tams gave way to the Memphis Sounds and the Carolina Cougars were bought by Ozzie and Daniel Silna and relocated and became the Spirits of St. Louis. The Western Division remained unchanged save for the Denver Rockets renaming themselves the Denver Nuggets. The ABA and NBA continued playing preseason exhibition games between their teams. ABA All-Star Game
The American Basketball Association (ABA) was a professional basketball league founded in 1967. The ABA ceased to exist after merging with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976. The KR men's basketball team, commonly known as KR or KR Basket, is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (English: Reykjavík Football Club) multi-sport club. The Ármann men's basketball team, commonly known as Ármann, is the men's basketball department of Ármann multi-sport club and is based in Reykjavík, Iceland. As of the 2020-2021 season the team plays in 2. deild karla. History Ármann was one of the founding teams of the first Icelandic basketball league in 1952. In 1968, its star player, Birgir Örn Birgis, won the inaugural Player of the Year award. In 1976, Ármann won its first national championship after beating KR 84-74 in the championship clinching game. SP Federale Lugano was a Swiss professional basketball club based in the city of Lugano in the canton of Ticino. History Federale was founded in 1942 but had to wait until the 70s to see the first major successes. The club won in the seventies three national league titles and 2 national Cups. San Diego Sails
The San Diego Conquistadors (known as the San Diego Sails in their final, partial season), were an American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in San Diego. The "Q's", as they were popularly known, played from 1972 to 1975. As the Sails, they played an incomplete season only, beginning the 1975–1976 season but folding after only 11 games with 3 wins and 8 losses.
