SP Federale Lugano
SP Federale Lugano was a Swiss professional basketball club based in the city of Lugano in the canton of Ticino. History Federale was founded in 1942 but had to wait until the 70s to see the first major successes. The club won in the seventies three national league titles and 2 national Cups. For three seasons, from 1978 to 1980, had as main sponsor the ''SA Luciano Franzosini Chiasso''. In the season 1975-76 Federale participated in the FIBA European Champions Cup as Swiss champion αfter two qualifier against Turkish Beşiktaş and Czechoslovak Dukla Olomouc, reached the quarter-finals where ranked sixth and last with a record of 0-5 wins in a group that included among others Real Madrid, Forst Cantù and Maccabi Tel Aviv. In 1981 the club merged with AS Viganello Basket (later with the Molino Nuovo), giving rise to the FV Lugano (today Lugano Tigers). The Swiss Basketball League, also known as SB League or SBL, is the top-tier professional club basketball league in Switzerland. It is organized by Swiss Basketball. The winners of the SBL are crowned Swiss national basketball champions. Currently, twelve teams compete in the league. Historically, Fribourg Olympic is the league's most successful team, as it has won a league-record 19 championships. Until 2017, the league was known as the Championnat LNA. Manuel Raga
Manuel "Manolo" Raga Navarro (born March 14, 1944) is a Mexican former professional basketball player. During his playing career, he was nicknamed, "The Flying Mexican", due to his nationality and his one of a kind 43 inch standing (no step) vertical leap. In 2008, he was named one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors. In 2016, he became a FIBA Hall of Fame player. Club career Raga played professionally for Varese in the Italian League, from 1968 to 1974, and with them, he won three EuroLeague championships. In 1970, he became the first player from an international league to be selected in the NBA Draft, when Atlanta Hawks general manager, Marty Blake, took him with the 167th overall pick. The Lugano Tigers are a Swiss professional basketball club that is based in Lugano, Switzerland. The club competes in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), the highest domestic tier. Founded as FN Lugano, the team was re-named to Lugano Snakes in 1999 and to its current name in 2003. History Founded in 1981, with the merging of Federal Lugano and AS Viganello, FV Lugano won the first Swiss Cup in 1982. AS Viganello, also known as Viganello Basket was a Switzerland, Swiss men's and women's professional basketball club based in the city of Viganello. The club was played for several years in the Swiss Basketball League, National League A and won the Swiss men's championship in 1980 and the Swiss Basketball Cup, Swiss Men's Cup in 1977 and 1980. History AS Viganello began as a women's team in 1942, in the village of Ticino (now district of the city of Lugano) and in 1943 it also added a men's team.
