Stephen F. Sisolak (born December 26, 1953) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 30th List of governors of Nevada, governor of Nevada from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Nevada Democratic Party, Democratic Party, he served on the Clark County Commission from 2009 to 2019 and on the Nevada System of Higher Education, Nevada Board of Regents from 1999 to 2008. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sisolak graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Lee Business School, Business School. After becoming involved in several civic causes and government projects, he was elected to the Nevada System of Higher Education, Nevada Board of Regents and served from 1999 to 2008. Nevada Senate
The Nevada Senate is the upper house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature of U.S. state of Nevada, the lower house being the Nevada Assembly. It currently (2012–2021) consists of 21 members from single-member districts. In the previous redistricting (2002–2011) there were 19 districts, two of which were multimember. Since 2012, there have been 21 districts, each formed by combining two neighboring state assembly districts. Each State Senator represented approximately 128,598 as of the 2010 United States Census. Article Four of the Constitution of Nevada sets that State Senators serve staggered four-year terms. 2022 Nevada Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Nevada gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Nevada. Incumbent Democratic governor Steve Sisolak lost re-election to a second term, being defeated by Republican nominee and Clark County Sheriff, Joe Lombardo. Sisolak was the first Democrat to seek re-election to Nevada's governorship since Bob Miller in 1994, and was subsequently the only incumbent governor in the United States to lose re-election in the 2022 elections. Decision Desk HQ called the race for Lombardo on November 11. Amid a slate of failed gubernatorial pickup attempts, this was the only governorship Republicans flipped in the 2022 elections, as well as the only governorship in a state carried by one party in the prior presidential election to flip to the other party. Bob Miller (Nevada Governor)
Robert Joseph Miller (born March 30, 1945) is an American former attorney and politician who served as the 26th Governor of Nevada from 1989 to 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, he had previously served as the Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1987 to 1989. After his re-election in 1994, no Nevada Democrats were elected governor of Nevada for 20 years until Steve Sisolak won in 2018. 2018 Nevada Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Nevada gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Nevada. Incumbent Republican Governor Brian Sandoval was ineligible to run for re-election, due to the absolute two-term limit established by the Nevada Constitution. Nevada is one of eight U.S. states (or nine U.S. states and territory) that prohibits its governors or any other state and territorial executive branch officials from serving more than two terms, even if they are nonconsecutive. The candidate filing deadline was March 16, 2018 and the primary election was held on June 12, 2018. The Republican nominee was Adam Laxalt and the Democratic nominee was Steve Sisolak. Adam Paul Laxalt (; born August 31, 1978) is an American attorney and politician who served as the 33rd Nevada Attorney General from 2015 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was an unsuccessful candidate for governor of Nevada in 2018 and for the U.S. Senate in 2022. Laxalt is the son of former U.S. Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico and grandson of former Nevada governor and U.S. senator Paul Laxalt.
