Steve Simon (tennis)
Steve Simon is an American former tennis player, and the current chief executive of the Women's Tennis Association. He was born in California, and played college tennis for Long Beach State University. He qualified for the Mixed Doubles event at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships alongside Lea Antonoplis, where they lost in the first round. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) is the principal organizing body of women's professional tennis. It governs the WTA Tour which is the worldwide professional tennis tour for women and was founded to create a better future for women's tennis. The WTA's corporate headquarters is in St. Petersburg, Florida, with its European headquarters in London and its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Beijing. 1981 Wimbledon Championships
The 1981 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament that took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament ran from 22 June until 4 July. It was the 95th staging of the Wimbledon Championships, and the second Grand Slam tennis event of 1981. For the first time in the tournament's history there were no seeded British players in the singles draws. Prize money The total prize money for 1981 championships was £322,136. The winner of the men's title earned £21,600 while the women's singles champion earned £19,440. Lea Antonoplis
Lea Antonoplis (born January 20, 1959) is a former professional tennis player from the U.S. who won the Wimbledon Girls' Singles in 1977 and four WTA doubles titles. Early life Antonoplis attended Glendora High School from 1974 to 1977 and graduated from the University of Southern California. Tennis career In 1974, Lea played an exhibition match arranged by Dale Jensen in Claremont, Ca with Tracy Austin, Lawrence McCutcheon, and Elgin Baylor. Also in 1974, Antonoplis played in her first Grand Slam match at the US Open, losing to Sue Mappin in three sets. In the 1977 Wimbledon Championships, Antonoplis won the junior singles, beating compatriot Peanut Louie-Harper in the final in straight sets. In 1979, she won her first WTA doubles title in the Player's Canadian Open with Diane Evers, defeating Chris O'Neil and Mimmi Wikstedt 2–6, 6–1, 6–3. The Indian Wells Masters, also known as the Indian Wells Open and BNP Paribas Open is an annual tennis tournament usually held in early- and mid-March at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, United States.
