Stephen David Owens (September 21, 1956 – July 8, 2016) was a politician from Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 1995 who represented the Toronto riding of Scarborough Centre. He served as a cabinet minister in the government of Bob Rae. Background Owens held a General Arts and Science Certificate, and worked as a hospital orderly at Toronto General Hospital. He served as president and vice-president of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2001, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Politics In 1990, he ran as the New Democratic Party candidate in the 1990 provincial election, defeating Liberal incumbent Cindy Nicholas by 4,162 votes in the riding of Scarborough Centre. Loren Everett "Steve" Owens (born December 9, 1947) is a former American football player who played professionally as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons in the early 1970s. Owens played college football for the 1969 Oklahoma Sooners football team, University of Oklahoma, and was the 1969 Heisman Trophy winner and an 1969 College Football All-America Team, All-American. He was selected in the first round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the 1970 Detroit Lions season, Detroit Lions, 19th overall, and became the first Lion to rush for over a 1,000 yards in a season. Stephen Alan Owens (born August 19, 1955) is an American attorney and politician. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he served as chief counsel and state director for U.S. Senator Al Gore before moving to the Phoenix, Arizona area during Gore's unsuccessful presidential run in 1988. He was a fundraiser for the Clinton-Gore campaign in 1992, and, from 1993 to 1995, was chair of the Arizona Democratic Party. He was the Democratic nominee for Arizona's 6th congressional district in 1996 and 1998, losing both times to incumbent J. D. Hayworth. Owens served as director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality from 2003 to 2009 under Governor Janet Napolitano, after which he was appointed by President Barack Obama to be Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances. Stephen "Steve" Owens (born July 4, 1965) is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights baseball team. He has held that position since prior to the 2020 season. Owens played football and baseball at St. Lawrence and was drafted in the 25th round of the 1987 MLB Draft. He played two seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization, reaching Class A. He then turned to coaching, serving as an assistant baseball and football coach at Ithaca Bombers. The following season, he earned a head coaching position with the Cortland Red Dragons baseball team, where he remained for eight seasons. He then coached at Le Moyne before becoming head coach at Bryant. In 2013, he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament and was recognized as the ABCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
