Stephen Owens (Kansas Politician)
Stephen Owens is an American politician and businessman serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 74th district. Elected in November 2018, he assumed office in January 2019. Education Owens earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business and accounting from Bethel College and a Master of Business Administration from Southwestern College. Career From 1997 to 2015, Owens served as a captain in the Hesston, Kansas, Fire Department. From 2000 to 2003, he also worked as a CPA. From 2014 to 2018, Owens was the vice president of the Kansas Bail Bonds Association. He co-founded Axis Monitoring LLC, a company that provides alcohol, GPS and house arrest monitoring services. Owens also owns a bail bonds company with locations in Wichita and Emporia. Bethel College is a private Christian college in North Newton, Kansas. It is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA. History Bethel College, founded in 1887, is the oldest Mennonite college in North America. Bethel College became the second institution of higher learning associated with the General Conference Mennonite Church (now Mennonite Church USA), replacing Wadsworth Institute in Ohio, which had closed in 1878. During the 1880s, Kansas cities and towns competed with one another to create and construct institutions and buildings, including colleges. Don Schroeder (born March 20, 1951) is an American politician who served as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives for the 74th district from 2007 to 2019. Education Schroeder earned Bachelor of Business Administration from Tabor College and a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University. Career Schroeder operated a Production Agriculture Operation for 30 years and also served as a member of the McPherson County Board of Commissioners.
