Steve Nemeth
Steve Nemeth (born February 11, 1967) is a Canadian retired ice hockey player. He played 12 NHL games for the New York Rangers. He was part of the Canadian team that was disqualified from the 1987 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, 1987 World Juniors for their involvement in the Punch-up in Piestany. Nemeth was singled out as one of the players who did not fight. However, Nemeth had been involved on-ice attempting to break up various fights, and was the only Canadian to intervene when forward Stephane Roy (ice hockey b. 1967), Stephane Roy was double-teamed by two Soviet players. Nemeth consulted with tournament officials regarding the response to the brawl, and was told to have the players go to the locker room and await further instructions. Nemeth was the only player to challenge the initial suspension handed out by the International Ice Hockey Federation to the players involved in the brawl. Kamloops Blazers
The Kamloops Blazers are a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team plays in the B.C. Division of the Western Conference, is based out of Kamloops, British Columbia, and play home games at Sandman Centre. The Blazers originated as the Estevan Bruins in 1966, became the New Westminster Bruins in 1971, and relocated to Kamloops in 1981 as the Kamloops Junior Oilers. Lethbridge Broncos
The Lethbridge Broncos were a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League from 1974 until 1986. The team had been losing money in Swift Current and the new Lethbridge Sportsplex was beckoning for a team. The Broncos played in Lethbridge for twelve seasons, winning the President's Cup in 1982–83. In the mid 1980s, the team came up for sale, and despite a large and loyal fanbase, the Broncos were bought by interests in Swift Current and moved back to their original home. International Ice Hockey Federation
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL).
