Stephen Irwin (architect)
Stephen Van Egmond Irwin RAIC, RIBA, OAA, BArch, MArch (March 10, 1939 – March 5, 2019) was a Canadian architect and "partner emeritus" of Shore Tilbe Irwin + Partners in Toronto, Ontario. Biography Irwin trained at the University of Toronto, where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He later studied at Harvard University, where he received MArch. In 1963 he received the British Prix de Rome in Architecture. Irwin began his design career in 1962 in Sweden, for Gronwall-Hirsch, and worked for one year in London, England, for Hugh Casson, Conder & Partners. He returned to Canada in 1965, where he joined Shore & Moffat (now Shore Tilbe Irwin + Partners). He was a partner of the firm from 1971. Irwin died on March 5, 2019. Steven Dane Irwin (born July 1, 1959) is an American lawyer, activist, and politician who currently serves as Chair of the Pennsylvania Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and previously served as the Banking and Securities Commissioner of Pennsylvania. A member of the Democratic Party, Irwin ran for Congress in 2022, but was defeated in one of the nation's closest races, by State Representative Summer Lee in the primary. Early life Irwin spent his early childhood in Queens, New York and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida when he was age 10. His father, a Korean War veteran, worked as a butcher and his mother worked as a secretary to a Rabbi. One of the only Jews in St. Petersburg, he was often bullied and his house was egged because he was Jewish. Sir Stephen John Irwin (born 5 February 1953), is a retired British judge and barrister. From September 2016 until October 2020, he was a Lord Justice of Appeal (an ordinary judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales). From May 2006 to 2016, he served as a judge of the High Court of England and Wales. Early life and education Irwin was born on 5 February 1953 in Helen's Bay, Northern Ireland. He was educated at Methodist College Belfast, a grammar school in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Having gained an open scholarship, he studied law and English at Jesus College, Cambridge. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1975. He then undertook a year of training in order to qualify as a barrister. Stephen Robert Irwin (22 February 19624 September 2006), known as "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian zookeeper, conservationist, television personality, wildlife educator, and environmentalist. Irwin grew up around crocodiles and other reptiles and was educated regarding them by his father Bob. He achieved international fame from the television series ''The Crocodile Hunter'' (1996–2007), an internationally broadcast wildlife documentary series that he co-hosted with his wife Terri. Steve Irwin (born July 18, 1982 in Carberry, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler from Brandon, Manitoba. He skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Irwin, representing the Brandon Curling Club, is a three-time provincial curling club champion, having won in 2010, 2012 and 2013. As such, he represented Manitoba at the 2010 The Dominion Curling Club Championship, the 2012 The Dominion Curling Club Championship and the 2013 The Dominion Curling Club Championship. In 2010, he led his rink to a semi-final loss, after posting a 6-0 record. In 2012, his team was undefeated until losing to Alberta in the final. Steven Irwin (born 29 September 1990) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for Widnes. Career Irwin played youth football in his native England with Liverpool. He trialled with Scottish club Aberdeen in January 2011, with a view to a loan deal. He was released by Liverpool in June 2011. Members of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA), a loyalist paramilitary group, opened fire on civilians in a crowded pub during a Halloween party, killing eight and wounding nineteen. The pub was targeted because it was frequented by Catholics, though two of the victims were Protestant. The group claimed responsibility using their cover name "Ulster Freedom Fighters", saying the attack was revenge for the Shankill Road bombing by the Provisional IRA a week earlier. The MV ''Steve Irwin'' was the flagship of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and was used in their direct action campaigns against whaling and against illegal fisheries activities. The vessel was built in 1975 and formerly served as a Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency conservation enforcement patrol boat, the FPV ''Westra'', for 28 years. Sea Shepherd had originally christened the vessel the MY ''Robert Hunter'' after Canadian Robert Hunter, co-founder of Greenpeace, but it was renamed in honor of ''The Crocodile Hunter'' star Steve Irwin, who had died just over a year earlier, on December 5, 2007.
