Stefania Sandrelli
Stefania Sandrelli (born 5 June 1946) is an Italian actress, famous for her many roles in the ''commedia all'Italiana'', starting from the 1960s. She was 14 years old when she starred in '' Divorce Italian Style'' as Angela, the cousin and love interest of Ferdinando, played by Marcello Mastroianni. Early life Sandrelli was born in Viareggio, Tuscany, into a middle-class family, the daughter of Florida and Otello Sandrelli (who died when she was eight years old), owners of a pension in Viareggio. As a girl, Sandrelli studied ballet and learned to play the accordion. Sandrelli had a brother, Sergio, seven years older, who had a successful music career and died in 2013. Viareggio
Viareggio () is a city and ''comune'' in northern Tuscany, Italy, on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. With a population of over 62,000, it is the second largest city within the province of Lucca, after Lucca. Antonio Pietrangeli (19 January 191912 July 1968) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He was a major practitioner of the Commedia all'italiana genre. Biography Pietrangeli was born in Rome. He started in the film industry by writing movie reviews for Italian cinema magazines such as ''Bianco e Nero'' and ''Cinema''. As a screenwriter, his works include '' Ossessione'' and '' La terra trema'' directed by Luchino Visconti, '' Fabiola'' directed by Alessandro Blasetti, and ''Europa '51'' directed by Roberto Rossellini. Pietrangeli's own directing debut was '' Il sole negli occhi'', a 1953 film starring Gabriele Ferzetti. ''Seduced and Abandoned'' ( it, Sedotta e abbandonata) is a 1964 Italian film directed by Pietro Germi. It was screened at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The film presents the tale of Agnese Ascalone, daughter of prominent quarry owner Vincenzo Ascalone, and takes place in a small town in Sicily (specifically Sciacca), as did Germi's previous film, ''Divorce, Italian Style''. Agnese is seduced by her sister Matilde's fiancé, and has a tryst with him for which she confesses and tries to repent, only to be discovered by her mother and father. Vincenzo immediately demands that the man, Peppino Califano, marry his daughter, and antics ensue. Pietro Germi (; 14 September 1914 – 5 December 1974) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor, noted for his development of the neorealist and commedia all'Italiana genres. His 1961 film '' Divorce Italian Style'' earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar and a Best Director nomination at the 35th Academy Awards. Seven of his films competed at the Cannes Film Festival, with his 1966 comedy '' The Birds, the Bees and the Italians'' winning the Palme d'Or. Luciano Salce (25 September 1922 – 17 December 1989) was an Italian film director, comedian, tv host, producer, actor and lyricist. His 1962 film ''Le pillole di Ercole'' was shown as part of a retrospective on Italian comedy at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. As a writer of pop music, he used the pseudonym Pilantra. ''Le Ore'' (meaning ''The Hours'' in English) was an Italian weekly news magazine published between 1953 and 1994 in Milan, Italy. History and profile The magazine was founded in Milan in April 1953 as a weekly political, cultural and literary magazine and was first directed by Salvato Cappelli.
