''Alfredo, Alfredo'' is a 1972 Italian award-winning comedy film co-written and directed by Pietro Germi. Plot The film, told mostly in flashback, tells the story of a timid bank clerk (Dustin Hoffman) living in Ascoli Piceno (Italian town located in Marche region) who finds himself swept into dating and marrying a possessive woman (Stefania Sandrelli), the stress he endures as her behavior in their marriage becomes increasingly domineering, and the obstacles he faces in leaving her for another more amenable woman (Carla Gravina), in the times when divorce was still illegal in Italy. Pietro Germi
Pietro Germi (; 14 September 1914 – 5 December 1974) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor, noted for his development of the neorealist and commedia all'Italiana genres. His 1961 film ''Divorce Italian Style'' earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar and a Best Director nomination at the 35th Academy Awards. Seven of his films competed at the Cannes Film Festival, with his 1966 comedy ''The Birds, the Bees and the Italians'' winning the Palme d'Or. Michele Gammino (born 16 June 1941) is an Italian actor, voice actor and television presenter. Career Born in Rome to parents who originated from Palermo, Gammino began his career during the early 1970s. For his work on Italian television, Gammino has become famous on a number of occasions but mostly as presenter of '' Giochi senza frontiere'', the Italian edition of '' Jeux Sans Frontières'', which he co-hosted with Ettore Andenna and Milly Carlucci between 1979 and 1982. Sergio Graziani (10 November 1930 – 25 May 2018) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Graziani attended the Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts, and began his career on stage in the late 1950s, working as well as a voice actor: he dubbed Donald Sutherland and Peter O'Toole in most of their performances. In 1999 he gave his voice to Professor Farnsworth from ''Futurama'' for the first five seasons of the show, until he was replaced by Mino Caprio in the second run of the show. Retirement and death Graziani officially retired from his career in 2014 and he died in Rome on 25 May 2018, at the age of 87. Vittorio Duse (21 March 1916 – 2 June 2005) was an Italian actor, screenwriter and film director. Biography One of Duse's first roles was in Luchino Visconti's debut feature ''Ossessione'' (1942). Outside Italy, Duse is known for his role in ''The Godfather Part III'' as Don Tommasino in 1990, replacing Corrado Gaipa, who died one year prior to the film's release. Duse mostly starred in Italian films, although he also appeared in ''The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles'', ''The Sopranos'', and in '' When in Rome''. In 1989, Duse starred in the film ''Queen of Hearts'', and he won the Jury Distinction Award at the Montréal World Film Festival. Death Duse died on 2 June 2005 at the age of 89.
