Stefan Weisman
Stefan Weisman (born 1970) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. He composes opera, chamber music, orchestral music, as well as music for the theater, video and dance. Raised in East Brunswick, New Jersey, Weisman credits his passion for music starting with his participation in the orchestra at East Brunswick High School. His opera ''Darkling'', with a libretto by Anna Rabinowitz was commissioned, developed and produced in 2006 by American Opera Projects. Elements of composer Lee Hoiby’s song “The Darkling Thrush” were used as source material for the opera's music. ''Darkling'' was included in the Guggenheim Museum's "Works & Process" series, and premiered at the East 13th Street Theater. In a New York Times review, Anthony Tommasini described Weisman's music as "personal, moody and skillfully wrought." ''Darkling'' was released internationally by Albany Records in 2011. Composer
A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". HERE Arts Center is a New York City off-off-Broadway presenting house, founded in 1993. Their location includes two stages specializing in hybrid performance, dance, theater, multi-media and puppetry in addition to art exhibition space and a cafe. Daron Aric Hagen ( ; born November 4, 1961) is an American composer, writer, and filmmaker. Biography Early life Daron Hagen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in New Berlin, a suburb west of Milwaukee. Hagen was the youngest of the three sons of Gwen Hagen, a visual artist, writer and advertising executive who studied creative writing with Mari Sandoz and enjoyed a successful advertising career as creative director of ''Exclusively Yours'' Magazine and Earl Hagen (an attorney). ''Calabi-Yau'' is a 2001 play written by playwright Susanna Speier with songs and music by Stefan Weisman, based on physicist Brian Greene's national bestseller ''The Elegant Universe''. The musical play is a multimedia sub-subatomic adventure story about a documentarian lost in an inner loop of an abandoned track of the New York Subway system. He encounters MTA workers who are attempting to prove string theory by building a particle accelerator in abandoned subway tunnels beneath downtown New York City. The MTA track workers lead the documentarian to a gatekeeper named Lucy and her grandfather, who is engineering the particle accelerator. A string explains string theory as a Calabi-Yau tells the story of Alexander the Great cutting the Gordian knot. Lisa Moore (born 1960) is an Australian/American internationally renowned pianist. Moore was born in Canberra, Australia, one of three children to an art historian and a prominent economist. Her early life included overseas travel, and by the age of 16, she had visited more than a dozen countries and lived in Sydney and London. Moore's development as an artist can be traced to her formative years in Canberra during the 1970s. A succession of "strange and interesting people" through her childhood included the Australian painter Charles Blackman. Moore was raised in both Australia and London (1971–73). Miró Quartet
The Miró Quartet is an internationally performing professional classical string quartet based in Austin, Texas. The group is the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Texas and its members are on the faculty of the Butler School of Music.
