Lisa Moore (musician)
Lisa Moore (born 1960) is an Australian/American internationally renowned pianist. Moore was born in Canberra, Australia, one of three children to an art historian and a prominent economist. Her early life included overseas travel, and by the age of 16, she had visited more than a dozen countries and lived in Sydney and London. Moore's development as an artist can be traced to her formative years in Canberra during the 1970s. A succession of "strange and interesting people" through her childhood included the Australian painter Charles Blackman. Moore was raised in both Australia and London (1971–73). She studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium from 1976 until 1980 before moving to the USA to complete her musical training. With an Alliance Française grant, Moore spent a year (1982–83) in Paris before moving back to the USA and settling in New York City in 1985. Philip Glass
Philip Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer and pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. Glass's work has been associated with minimal music, minimalism, being built up from repetitive phrases and shifting layers. Glass describes himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures", which he has helped evolve stylistically. Glass founded the Philip Glass Ensemble, with which he still performs on keyboards. Nonesuch Records is an American record company and label owned by Warner Music Group, distributed by Warner Records (formerly called Warner Bros. Records), and based in New York City. Founded by Jac Holzman in 1964 as a budget classical label, Nonesuch has developed into a label that records critically acclaimed music from a wide range of genres. Robert Hurwitz was president of the company from 1984 to 2017. Julia Wolfe
Julia Wolfe (born December 18, 1958) is an American composer and professor of music at New York University. According to ''The Wall Street Journal'', Wolfe's music has "long inhabited a terrain of its own, a place where classical forms are recharged by the repetitive patterns of minimalism and the driving energy of rock". Frederic Anthony Rzewski ( ; April 13, 1938 – June 26, 2021) was an American composer and pianist, considered to be one of the most important American composer-pianists of his time. Katie Moore is a Canadian singer and songwriter based in Montreal, Quebec, who records and performs with Socalled and El Coyote, and as a solo artist. She released her debut album, ''Katie Moore'', in 2004. Her second album ''Only Thing Worse'', was released in 2007, and followed up with ''Montebello'' in 2011. Missy Mazzoli
Missy Mazzoli (born October 27, 1980) is an American composer and pianist who is a member of the composition faculty at the Mannes College of Music. She has received critical acclaim for her chamber, orchestral and operatic work. In 2018 she became one of the first two women to receive a commission from the Metropolitan Opera House. She is the founder and keyboardist for Victoire, an electro-acoustic band dedicated to performing her music. Martin Bresnick
Martin Bresnick (born 1946) is a composer of contemporary classical music, film scores and experimental music. Education and early career Bresnick grew up in the Bronx, and is a graduate of New York City's specialized High School of Music and Art. He was educated at the University of Hartford (B.A. '67), Stanford University (M.A. '68, D.M.A. '72), and the Akademie für Musik, Vienna ('69–'70), and studied composition with John Chowning, György Ligeti and Gottfried von Einem. John Luther Adams
John Luther Adams (born January 23, 1953) is an American composer whose music is inspired by nature, especially the landscapes of Alaska, where he lived from 1978 to 2014.
