Stavnes Lighthouse
Stavnes Lighthouse or Stavneset Lighthouse ( no, Stavenes fyr / Stavneset fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in Averøy Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The lighthouse sits on the ''Stavneset'' peninsula on the northeastern coast of the island Averøya, along the Bremsnesfjorden. The lighthouse was built to mark the entrance to the fjord, which is near the port of the city of Kristiansund, a few kilometres away. The lighthouse was originally built in 1842 and it was rebuilt in 1894. The lighthouse was automated in 1976. The light sits at an elevation of above sea level and it emits a white, red, or green light (depending on direction) occulting in groups of three every 10 seconds. The light burns from 16 July until 21 May every year, but it does not burn in the summer due to the midnight sun. The lighthouse is painted white with a red top. Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Averøy is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the region of Nordmøre. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bruhagen. It is located north of the Romsdal peninsula surrounded by the Kornstadfjord on the west and the Kvernesfjord on the south and east. Kristiansund (, ; historically spelled Christianssund and earlier named Fosna) is a town in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the summer months in places north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle, when the Sun remains visible at the local midnight. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration.
