''State of Emergency'' is the third extended play by American rapper Lil Tjay. It was released on May 8, 2020 by Columbia Records. The album features guest appearances from Fivio Foreign, Pop Smoke, Sheff G, Sleepy Hallow (rapper), Sleepy Hallow, J.I the Prince of N.Y, and Jay Gwuapo. Promotion "Ice Cold" was released on May 1, 2020 as the lead single, alongside a music video. The music video for "Zoo York" featuring Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign was released on May 8, 2020. Critical reception Pitchfork (website), Pitchfork assigns 6.7/10 and says: "Across a mostly fun, guest-filled 22 minutes, the young New York City, New York rapper does what needs to be done and puts on for his city". It also explains how the name of the EP has nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the murder problems caused in New York. Tione Jayden Merritt (born April 30, 2001), known professionally as Lil Tjay, is an American rapper and singer-songwriter. He rose to prominence in 2017 with his song "Resume", and then the release of his breakthrough song "Brothers" which led him to sign with Columbia Records later during that year. Lil Tjay's debut studio album, ''True 2 Myself'', was released in 2019. The following year, he released the mixtape ''State of Emergency'' that features only drill artists from New York City. Michael Kyle Williams (born September 23, 1998), known professionally as Sheff G, is an American rapper from the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. He rose to fame with his single "No Suburban" in 2017 which was a response to the song "Suburban" by 22Gz. Williams is widely known as one of the vanguards of the Brooklyn drill movement. Early life Michael Williams was born on September 23, 1998 in Brooklyn, New York to a Trinidadian mother and Haitian father. He was raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. He was influenced and inspired to rap by listening to I.G. and Chicago drill rappers like Lil Bibby and Chief Keef. Before getting into music, Sheff G joined the 83 (Eight Trey) Gangsta Crips at age 12, and was imprisoned for 2 years for a felony gun charge.
