The State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan ( tt-Cyrl, Татарстан Республикасы Дәүләт Советы; russian: Государственный Совет Республики Татарстан) is the regional parliament of Tatarstan, a federal subject of Russia. It consists of 100 deputies elected for five-year terms. 50 deputies are elected by single-member constituencies while the other 50 are elected in party lists. The presiding officer is the Chairman of the State Council. Farid Khayrullovich Mukhametshin (also Farit Mokhametshin; tt-Cyrl, Фәрит Хәйрулла улы Мөхәммәтшин; russian: Фарид Хайруллович Мухаметшин; born May 22, 1947, in Almetyevsk, USSR) is a Russian politician and a former Prime Minister of Tatarstan. He is an ethnic Tatar. He was elected in March 1994 to the upper chamber of the Federal Assembly of Russia. The regional parliaments of Russia are the legislative bodies of power in the federal subjects of Russia (republics, Territories of Russia, regions, autonomous districts and federal cities), which have different names, often collectively referred to in the media as regional parliaments. The federal structure of Russia includes 85 regional parliaments. The biggest regional parliament is the State Assembly of the Republic of Bashkortostan which consists of 110 deputies.
