State Auditor Of Mississippi
The state auditor of Mississippi is an elected official in the executive branch of Government of Mississippi, Mississippi's state government. The duty of the state auditor is to ensure accountability in the use of funds appropriated by the state legislature by inspecting and reporting on the expenditure of the public funds. Shad White is the incumbent state auditor of Mississippi as of 2022. He assumed office on July 17, 2018. History of the office It has been an elected position since the 1832 Constitution of Mississippi, which specified a two-year term; prior to this, the state auditor was appointed annually by the governor of Mississippi. The 1868 Constitution expanded the term to four years. Shadrack Tucker White (born September 22, 1985) is an American politician and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) serving as the 42nd State Auditor of Mississippi. He previously served as Director of the Mississippi Justice Institute. A Republican, White was appointed by Phil Bryant and was sworn in on July 17, 2018. Dewey Phillip Bryant (born December 9, 1954) is an American politician who served as the 64th governor of Mississippi from 2012 to 2020. Steve Patterson (politician)
Steven A. Patterson is an American lawyer and politician who served as State Auditor of Mississippi from 1992 to 1996. A Democrat, he worked on several political campaigns in the 1970s and served as treasurer for Bill Allain's 1983 gubernatorial campaign. With Allain's backing, Patterson assumed the chairmanship of the Mississippi Democratic Party, which he held until 1987. In 1991 Patterson ran for the office of state auditor. Taking office in 1992, he secured law enforcement powers for some the employees of his office and gained authorization to conduct performance audits of state agencies. Carl Norris Craig (July 7, 1878 – December 4, 1957) was an American politician who served as the state auditor of Mississippi from 1936 to 1940 and from 1948 to 1952. He also served as the Mississippi state tax collector from 1940 to 1948. As state auditor, he oversaw a widely publicized audit of the Mississippi land commission office, eventually finding that the state land commissioner had misappropriated $27,000 in state funds.
