Starbreeze Studios AB is a Swedish video game developer and publisher based in Stockholm. The studios's notable games developed include '' The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay'', ''Payday 2'' and '' Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons''. Founded by members of the demogroup Triton, the company was merged with O3 Games in 2002 wherein the Starbreeze name was retained. The company produced titles including '' Enclave'' and '' Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade''. In the early 2000s, cancellations of their projects due to conflicts with publishers and a failed acquisition led to a severe financial crisis, resulting in staff lay-offs during the development of Starbreeze's fourth game, ''The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay''. Overkill Software
Overkill Software is a Swedish video game developer based and founded in Stockholm in 2009 by Ulf Andersson, Bo Andersson, the founders and owners of defunct game developer Grin, along with Simon Viklund. In 2012, Swedish game studio Starbreeze Studios acquired Overkill. The company is known for their ''Payday'' series, consisting of Payday: The Heist, ''Payday 2, and Payday 3.'' History Brothers Bo and Ulf Andersson had founded Grin in 1997, which had some successful titles including ''Bionic Commando''. However, when a deal with Square Enix to make a ''Final Fantasy''-based game fell through, Grin went bankrupt and was shut down in 2009. The Anderssons launched Overkill Software that same year after Grin gets shut down due to bankruptcy, with their first project being '' Payday: The Heist'', released in 2011. ''Syndicate'' is a 2012 cyberpunk first-person shooter video game developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It is a Video game remake, reboot of the ''Syndicate (series), Syndicate'' series of real-time tactics, real-time tactics games developed by Bullfrog Productions. The game was released in February 2012 worldwide. Set in the year 2069, the narrative revolves around Miles Kilo, a EuroCorp agent who must eliminate important personnel from rival corporations; in the process, he discovers the evil, secret practice used by EuroCorp to recruit agents. The game features a large variety of weapons; from standard pistols to the futuristic guns. Kilo is implanted with a Integrated circuit, computer chip that allows him to access the dataverse and can use hacker (programmer subculture), hacking to defeat enemies and solve environmental puzzles. ''Payday 2'' is a cooperative first-person shooter video game developed by Overkill Software and published by 505 Games. The game is a sequel to 2011's '' Payday: The Heist''. It was released in August 2013 for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. An improved version of the game, subtitled ''Crimewave Edition'', was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2015. A version for the Nintendo Switch was released in February 2018. Two years after the events of the previous game, the Payday gang comes to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to perform another heisting spree. The player takes control of one of the gang's twenty-two members and can perform heists alone, or with up to three teammates. The player can participate in a variety of heists, including but not limited to robberies of banks, shops and armored cars, and producing and distributing narcotics.
