Star Wars Encyclopedia
''Star Wars Encyclopedia'' is a 1998 reference book written by science-fiction author Stephen J. Sansweet, the director of content management at Lucasfilm. The book defines, explains, and illustrates the characters, creatures, settings, objects, events, and concepts that appear in the '' Star Wars'' space-opera media franchise. Data is drawn from the original trilogy films, radio dramas, novels, short stories, graphic novels, and computer games. The ''Star Wars Encyclopedia'' contains an introduction written by science-fiction and ''Star Wars'' author Timothy Zahn. The book was expanded and updated in 2008 as ''The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia'', co-written by Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo. According to Sansweet, he wrote the book from the in-universe perspective of a group of scholars writing about 25 years after the events of ''Return of the Jedi''. Steve Sansweet
Stephen J. Sansweet (born June 14, 1945) is the chairman and president of Rancho Obi-Wan, a nonprofit museum that houses the world's largest collection of '' Star Wars'' memorabilia. Prior to his retirement in April 2011, he was Director of Content Management and head of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm Ltd. for 15 years, and remains Fan Relations Advisor for the company. He is author or co-author of eighteen books, sixteen of them about '' Star Wars''. After Sansweet relocated to Northern California to be closer to his new office at Skywalker Ranch, he bought a former chicken ranch and refurbished its barns to house his collection. The property was renamed Rancho Obi-Wan. In September 2013, his collection of an estimated 300,000 items was recognized by the '' Guinness Book of Records'' as being the largest of its kind in the world. ''Starlog'' was a monthly science fiction magazine that was created in 1976 and focused primarily on '' Star Trek'' at its inception. Kerry O'Quinn and Norman Jacobs were its creators and it was published by Starlog Group, Inc. in August 1976. ''Starlog'' was one of the first publications to report on the development of the first '' Star Wars'' movie, and it followed the development of what was to eventually become '' Star Trek: The Motion Picture'' (1979).
