The Star Awards for Favourite Onscreen Couple (Drama) was an award presented annually at the Star Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1994. The category was introduced in 2011, at the 17th Star Awards ceremony; Christopher Lee and Jeanette Aw received the award for their roles in '' Breakout'' and it is given in honour of a pair of artistes–one actor and one actress (not necessary to be contracted under Mediacorp)–who portrayed a drama series couple that is deemed the most popular among the television audience. In 2011, the nominees were determined by a team of judges employed by Mediacorp. The rule was removed in 2012 to allow the public to determine the nominees entirely via online voting. Winners are also selected by a majority vote from the public via online voting as well. The Star Awards (Chinese: 红星大奖) are awards for artistic and technical merit in the media organisation Mediacorp of Singapore where Mediacorp recognises entertainers under their employment for outstanding performances of the year. The awards are given annually in a ceremony. The various category winners are awarded a trophy, with initial designs featuring various star shapes. The star was subsequently removed and the trophy is designed as a S shaped column, depicting the star. History The 1st Star Awards presentation was held on 26 February 1994, took place at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, MediaCorp TV Theatre with an audience of about 500 people. There have no other pre-show and post-awards ceremony held in that year. It is part of the annual ''Star Awards'' organised by MediaCorp for the two free-to-air channels, MediaCorp Channel 8 and MediaCorp Channel U. As like the preceding year's ceremony, this year's ''Star Awards'' were broadcast in two live-telecast shows on Channel 8, on 17 and 24 April. The first show, titled 银光闪耀 (lit. Blinding Silverlight) was broadcast live on 17 April 2011 at MediaCorp Studios, which primarily focuses on giving out mostly technical awards and the Favourite popularity awards which introduced since last year. ''On the Fringe 2011'' (simplified Chinese: 边缘父子) is a Singaporean Chinese drama which was telecasted on Singapore's free-to-air channel, MediaCorp Channel 8. The show's main cast were Li Nanxing, Fann Wong, Rui En and Zhang Yaodong, with Li returning to the drama career after a two-year hiatus. The show which lasted 20 episodes premiered on 2 August 2011 and ended on 29 August 2011. This drama is a remake from the 1987 series of the same name, which also stars Li and features ex-prisoners and similar antiheroes.
