Stanley Manly
Stanley Manly (born 1959) is a pseudonym for British author Neil Nixon. His first novel - ''Raiders of the Low Forehead'' - was issued in 1999, by Attack! Books a division of Creation Books dedicated to a style characterised as 'avant pulp.' Other authors published by the same imprint included Steven Wells and Tony White. ''Raiders of the Low Forehead'' is made of up of 45 chapters, the titles of the chapters rotate - Sex, Food, Violence - allowing every third chapter to include a graphic description of one of the three. Neil Nixon
Neil Nixon is an author, journalist and academic from Workington, England. Nixon's published works include titles on the paranormal, popular music, football and two novels published under the name of Stanley Manly. In 1999, he founded the United Kingdom's first full-time higher education course in Professional Writing. Nixon's scripts include material for television and radio. His radio play ''Mr. Lennon'' was nominated for a Sony Radio Academy Award for Best Single Drama. Career Nixon is a published journalist and was a regular contributor to the ''Fortean Studies'' series of books produced by '' Fortean Times'' magazine. Nixon's work for the series included papers exploring UFOlogy from the perspective of social science. ATTACK! Books was an avant-pulp imprint of Creation Books founded in 1999. Partly a homage to the raw pulp writing of Richard Allen and the world of British action comics, part surrealism and part ultraviolence, the titles were overseen by former ''NME'' journalist Steven Wells, with the following anti-mission statement: ''"This generation needs a NEW literature - writing that apes, matches, parodies and supersedes the flickeringly fast 900 MPH ATTACK! Steven Wells
Steven Wells (10 May 1960 – 24 June 2009) was a British journalist, author, comedian and punk poet born in Swindon, Wiltshire. He was best known for ranting poetry and his provocative, unapologetic music journalism. In June 2006, he wrote in the ''Philadelphia Weekly'' about his treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. After being in remission for a short time, he was diagnosed with enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma in January 2009 and died on 24 June 2009 in Philadelphia. Career Wells was born in Swindon but moved to Bradford when young. The son of a company director, he attended Hanson comprehensive school in Bradford, but left with minimal qualifications in 1977 and later worked in a factory and as a bus conductor. It was at this time that he became involved with punk rock, including the radical socialist Leeds art-punk band The Mekons. Tony White (writer)
Tony White (born 1964, Farnham, Surrey) is a British novelist, writer and editor. Best known for his novel ''Foxy-T'' ( Faber, 2003), described by Toby Litt in 2006 as his 'favourite British novel from the past ten years', White has been called a 'serious, engaging voice of the modern city'. Since 2010, he has been chair of London’s arts radio station Resonance FM. Cumbria
