Stangholmen Lighthouse
Stangholmen Lighthouse ( no, Stangholmen fyrstasjon) is a coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Risør in Agder county, Norway. The lighthouse marks the channel from the Skaggerak, through several islands to the mainland town of Risør which sits at the end of a peninsula between the Søndeledfjorden and the Sandnesfjorden. The lighthouse was first built in 1855 and in 1959, a new, automated light was constructed which is still in use to this day. The light is located on the small island of Stangholmen. It is only accessible by boat. The site is open to the public but the buildings are not. The white, cylindrical concrete tower has a red roof on top. Risør
is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located on the Skagerrak coast in the traditional region of Sørlandet. The administrative centre of Risør municipality is the town of Risør. There are many villages in Risør such as Akland, Bossvika, Fie, Hødnebø, Krabbesund, Moen, Nipe, Røysland, Sandnes, Sivik, Søndeled, and Stamsø. Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Skaggerak
The Skagerrak (, , ) is a strait running between the Jutland peninsula of Denmark, the southeast coast of Norway and the west coast of Sweden, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea area through the Danish Straits to the Baltic Sea. Risør is a Seaside resort, a List of towns and cities in Norway, town and the administrative centre of Risør municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located along the Skaggerak coast on a peninsula between the entrances to the Søndeledfjorden (to the north) and the Sandnesfjorden (to the south). The town is one of the oldest towns in Southern Norway. It was declared a ladested in 1630 and upgraded to a kjøpstad in 1723. Søndeledfjorden
Søndeledfjorden is a fjord in Risør municipality in Agder county, Norway. The long fjord begins at the village of Søndeled and flows east into the Skaggerak. The large island of Barmen sits in the middle of the fjord, effectively separating it into two fjords known as the Nordfjorden in the north and the Sørfjorden in the south. At the western end of Barmen, the Nordfjorden and Sørfjorden reconnect in an area known as the Rødsfjorden. There are many islands at the mouth of the fjord as well as in the fjord itself. The town of Risør sits at the end of a peninsula on the south side of the mainland at the entrance to the fjord. There are many villages located around the fjord as well. Sandnesfjorden
Sandnesfjorden is a fjord in Agder county, Norway. The long fjord is primarily in the municipality of Risør, but the innermost part of the fjord is actually in Tvedestrand municipality. The fjord originates at the large inland lake Vegår and flows south and east through the river Storelva before emptying into the coastal lake Nævestadfjorden. This coastal lake flows through a long river, Lagelva, before it flows into the Sandnesfjorden. The Norwegian County Road 411 crosses the fjord where the river Lagelva meets the fjord. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. Occulting Light
A light characteristic is all of the properties that make a particular navigational light identifiable. Graphical and textual descriptions of navigational light sequences and colours are displayed on nautical charts and in Light Lists with the chart symbol for a lighthouse, lightvessel, buoy or sea mark with a light on it. Different lights use different colours, frequencies and light patterns, so mariners can identify which light they are seeing. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
