Standish-Sterling Community Schools
Standish-Sterling Community Schools is a public school district in the U.S. state of Michigan serving preschool through 12th grade. The district draws approximately 1,800 students from Arenac County and the cities of Standish and Omer, and the areas of Alger, Pinconning, Bentley, and Sterling. The district includes Sterling Elementary School (Preschool-K), Standish-Sterling Central Elementary School (1-6), and Standish-Sterling Central High School (7-12). History Sterling Elementary School in Sterling previously taught K-6 until 2017 when it converted to Preschool-K only. Standish-Sterling Central Elementary School was the previous Standish-Sterling Central High School from 1959 to 2001 and Standish-Sterling Middle School from 2001-2016. Arenac County
Arenac County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 15,002. The county seat is Standish. History Arenac County was organized in 1883. The name ''Arenac'', coined by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, US Indian Agent and ethnologist, is a derivation of the Latin ''arena'' and the Native American ''ac''. The combined words mean “A sandy place for a good footing.” The county includes some off-reservation trust lands held by the federal government for the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, which is based in Isabella County. Standish is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,458 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Arenac County. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. Standish is located roughly 5.2 miles from the Saginaw Bay. Climate History The town was platted by John D. Standish in 1871, who owned all of the land in the vicinity. Before the plat was formally recorded, Standish sold off some of his land in the area. The town was initially named "Granton". John Standish owned the town's first business, a sawmill, he later had the town name changed back to Standish. Jackson and Lansing Railroad reached the community in 1871. The first hotel was built in Standish in 1871 and named The Standish House, by a sheriff of Bay County. Omer is a city in Arenac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 274 at the 2020 census, which ranks it as the least-populated city in the state. Omer is consistently ranked as "Michigan's Smallest City" in terms of population, although the city of Lake Angelus held this distinction when it recorded a lower population at the 2010 census. Black Panther
A black panther is the melanistic colour variant of the leopard (''Panthera pardus'') and the jaguar (''Panthera onca'').
