Stan Thomas (Australian Footballer)
Stanley "Dasher" Thomas (9 May 1892 – 2 November 1958) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Sarah Jane Hull (1876-) — later, having married John Henry Thomas (1870-) in 1896, she became Sarah Jane Thomas — Thomas Stanley Hull (later known as "Stanley Thomas") was born in Tasmania on 9 May 1892. He was married to Ethel Mary Murnane (-1982). Football Thomas first played for Geelong in 1915. He did not play in 1916; however, from 1917 to 1925 he was a regular member of Geelong's defence. He represented the VFL in a match against a combined Bendigo Football League team on 24 July 1920. He only played one finals match in his career: the Semi Final against Fitzroy, at the MCG, on September 1923. Stanley Claude Thomas MBE JP ( July 1893 – 5 September 1974) was a football administrator who coached to one senior game in 1926 after their inaugural coach Wels Eicke resigned mid-season. Early life Thomas was born in Ballarat and moved to Melbourne where he had employment with the Victorian Railways as a fitter and turner. A keen sportsman, especially athletics Thomas played some football with the junior clubs in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. He played with North Juniors before trying his luck at Williamstown. He enlisted with the army in 1916 and was sent to fight in France. He had a bout in hospital suffering from illness and returned to Australia in 1919. As an athlete he won the Korumburra Gift and was responsible for founding the Footscray Harriers. Thomas played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association. Stanley Brown Thomas (born July 11, 1949) is a former professional baseball pitcher. Thomas pitched in all or part of four seasons in Major League Baseball from 1974 until 1977. Amateur career Thomas attended Florida State University and the University of New Haven. From 1968 to 1970, he played collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth Red Sox. Professional career Thomas was originally drafted by the Washington Senators in the 27th round of the 1971 Major League Baseball Draft. The next season, the Senators became the Texas Rangers, and Thomas made his major league debut in 1974 for that team. After two seasons in Texas, he was traded along with Ron Pruitt from the Rangers to the Cleveland Indians for John Ellis at the Winter Meetings on December 9, 1975.
