Stan Noszka
Stanley M. Noszka (September 19, 1920 – November 15, 1991) was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, serving from 1967 to 1978. He was also a professional basketball player in the 1940s. Noszka played for the Youngstown Bears in the National Basketball League during 1945–46, and in the Basketball Association of America for the Pittsburgh Ironmen (1946–47) and Boston Celtics The Boston Celtics ( ) are an American professional basketball team based in Boston. The 1948–49 BAA season was the third and final season of the Basketball Association of America. The 1949 BAA Playoffs ended with the Minneapolis Lakers winning the BAA Championship, beating the Washington Capitols 6 games in the BAA Finals. The 1947–48 BAA season was the second season of the Basketball Association of America. The 1948 BAA Playoffs ended with the Baltimore Bullets winning the BAA Championship, beating the Philadelphia Warriors in 6 games in the BAA Finals. Although not celebrated at the time, this season was historic, with Wataru Misaka of the New York Knicks becoming the first person of color to play in modern professional basketball. The 1946–47 BAA season was the inaugural season of the Basketball Association of America. The league launched with 11 teams playing a 60-game schedule. The postseason tournament (the 1947 BAA Playoffs) at its conclusion, ended with the Philadelphia Warriors becoming the first BAA Champion, beating the Chicago Stags 4 games to 1 in the BAA Finals. Following its third, the 1948–49 season, the BAA and National Basketball League merged to create the National Basketball Association or NBA. The NBA recognizes the three BAA seasons as part of its own history, sometimes without comment, so the 1946–47 BAA season is sometimes considered the first NBA season.
