Corunna, Ontario
Corunna is an unincorporated community in St. Clair Township, Lambton County, Ontario, Canada. The site of the community was surveyed by William Beresford in 1823. The community experienced a significant population boom between the 1830s and 1850s, mainly attributed to Scotch-Irish immigration. The community serves as the location of Chemical Valley, a major petrochemical and plastics manufacturing facility. History The area around what became Corunna was inhabited by several Anishinaabe First Nations tribes, including the Mississauga, Odawa, and Ojibwe, prior to European colonization. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. The Legislative Assembly currently has 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. Calgary North West
Calgary-North West is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in 1979 and is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. History The electoral district was created in the 1979 boundary redistribution from the electoral district of Calgary-Foothills and a portion of old electoral district of Banff that had been annexed by new city of Calgary boundaries. The riding was split in half in the 2010 boundary redistribution as land on the east side became part of Calgary-Hawkwood. The south boundary also picked up some land from Calgary-Bow and the riding was extended west into land that belonged to Foothills-Rocky View where the city of Calgary had annexed land. Sheila Embury
Sheila Barbara Embury (June 6, 1931 – August 1, 2005) was a former nurse and provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. Early life Sheila Barbara Pease was born on June 6, 1931. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a nurses degree in 1971. Sheila was married to David Embury who came west from Ontario to work for Shell Canada. They lived in Saskatchewan and Alberta settling in Calgary in 1969. Sheila had two children. Lynn and James (Jim). She was elected for two terms as a Progressive Conservative in the Alberta legislature. Following her retirement from politics Sheila served on various government boards. Frank Bruseker
Frank Bruseker (born June 3, 1954) is a former provincial level politician and current union leader from Alberta, Canada. Political career Bruseker was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 1989 Alberta general election. He defeated Progressive Conservative incumbent Stan Cassin to pick up the Calgary North West electoral district for the Liberals. The election was remarkable because in the previous election the Liberal candidate in the riding finished last; 7000 new voters came out to vote for Bruseker; and the vote for Cassin remained almost unchanged from the previous election. Bruseker was re-elected in the 1993 Alberta general election. He defeated Progressive Conservative challenger Harley Torgerson by a few hundred votes to keep his seat. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta (often referred to colloquially as Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta) was a provincial centre-right party in the Canadian province of Alberta that existed from 1905 to 2020. 1989 Alberta General Election
The 1989 Alberta general election was held on March 20, 1989, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Many political observers were surprised by the early election call as less than three years had passed since the previous election. Premier Don Getty, in his second election as Progressive Conservative Party leader, led it to its sixth consecutive term in government, although supported by less than half the votes cast in the election. Despite losing a significant share of the popular vote, the PC's benefited from a split vote between the two main opponents Liberals and NDP. Together those two parties received 55 percent of the vote to the Conservative's 44 percent. The Conservatives sustained a net loss of only two seats in the legislature.
