Stade Malien (basketball)
Stade Malien is a Malian basketball team based in Bamako. It is part of the multi-sports club, which also has a football team and rugby team. Founded in 1960, Stade plays in the Ligue 1, the highest level of basketball in Mali. They play in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in the 2023 season. The club is one of the most decorated teams in Mali, having won the Ligue 1 a record 16 times and the Malian Cup a record 24 times. Stade Malien were the third placed team in the 2023 season of the Basketball Africa League. They were also runners-up in the FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup twice, in 1972 and 1989. Al Ahly is an Egyptian basketball club, located in Cairo, Cairo Governorate, that plays in the Egypt Basketball Super League. Currently, two of its athletes play for the Egypt national basketball team. The team is part of the multi-sports club of the same name. John Wilkins (basketball)
John Walter Wilkins (born 13 July 1989) is a French-American-Moroccan professional basketball player who currently plays for Stade Malien. He is the son of former NBA player Jeff Wilkins. Professional career Wilkins started his professional career in 2013 with Liège Basket in the Belgian Pro Basketball League. After two seasons, Wilkins played three seasons in Morocco, one with CRA Hoceima and two with Ittihad Tanger. After one year with ART Giants Düsseldorf of the German third level ProB, he returned to Morocco to play for KACM. Rueben Abuchi Chinyelu (born 30 September 2003) is a Nigerian basketball player who plays for the Washington State Cougars, and for the Nigeria national team. He plays as center and is a graduate of the NBA Academy Africa. Early life and career Born in Enugu Agidi, a village in Anambra State, Chinyelu picked up basketball in 2018 in Lagos when he joined Raptors Basketball Academy. Mamadou Keita (born 1 February 1993) is a Malian basketball player who plays for Stade Malien of the Ligue 1 and plays for the Mali national basketball team. Standing at , he plays as shooting guard or point guard. Professional career Keita started his career with USFAS Bamako and was the MVP of the Malian Ligue 1 in the 2017–18 season. Road To BAL
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Semi-finals and finals are played to determine the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Format The national champions of each national federation (associated with FIBA Africa) can sign up for the BAL qualifiers. In the inaugural edition, a total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams. FIBA Africa Basketball League
The FIBA Africa Basketball League (formerly named the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup) was the highest caliber men's professional basketball competition for clubs until 2020, organized by the FIBA Africa and played by the champions of the leagues of the African countries. The league was replaced by the Basketball Africa League (BAL) from 2020. History The competition was founded in 1971. A year later, in 1972, Hit Trésor SC won the inaugural championship. For the first 33 years in existence, it was a biennial league. From 2004, the ACC was held yearly.
