The Staatskapelle Berlin () is a German orchestra and the resident orchestra of the Berlin State Opera, Unter den Linden. The orchestra is one of the oldest in the world. Until the fall of the German Empire in 1918 the orchestra's name was ''Königliche Kapelle'', i.e. Royal Orchestra. History The orchestra traces its roots to 1570, when Joachim II Hector, Elector of Brandenburg established the rules for an orchestra at his court which had been constituted, at an unknown date. In 1701, the affiliation of the Electors of Brandenburg to the position of King of Prussia led to the description of the orchestra as ' ("Royal Prussian Court Orchestra"), which consisted of about 30 musicians. The orchestra became affiliated with the Royal Court Opera, established in 1742 by Frederick the Great. The Staatskapelle Halle is a German symphony orchestra based in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Part of the umbrella organisation ''Theater, Oper und Orchester GmbH Halle'', the orchestra performs symphonic concerts, and also serves as the orchestra for the ''Oper Halle''. History The historical precursor ensemble was the ''Hallische Stadtorchester'', formed in 1852. Separately, Max Richards founded the ''Stadttheater-Orchester'', and later in 1907, the ''Hallesche Orchester-Vereinigung''. The theatre orchestra evolved into the Handel Festival Orchestra by 1957. The Badische Staatskapelle is a symphony orchestra based in Karlsruhe. The orchestra is affiliated with the Badisches Staatstheater (Baden State Theatre). The historical roots of the orchestra date back to 1662. The precursor ensemble was the ''Hofkapelle der Markgrafen von Baden-Durlach'' (Court Orchestra of the Margrave of Baden-Durlach). Early leaders of the orchestra included Giuseppe Beniventi (1712–1718), Casimir Schweizelsberger, Johann Philipp Käfer, and Johann Melchior Molter, who led the orchestra for 40 years.
