St Roch's F.C.
St Roch's Football Club is a Scottish football club, based in Royston Road, Glasgow. Nicknamed ''"the Candy Rock"'', they were formed in 1920 and play at James McGrory Park. They currently compete in the . They wear green and white strips. St Roch's was the first club of Jimmy McGrory, the British record goalscorer with 550 goals. McGrory, who grew up in the Garngad area where the club originated, began playing for them aged just 11. After helping the club win the Scottish Junior Cup in 1922, scoring in the final, he joined Celtic the following season. Jimmy McGrory
James Edward McGrory (26 April 1904 – 20 October 1982) was a Scottish footballer who played for Celtic and Clydebank as a forward and then went on to manage Kilmarnock before returning to Celtic as manager after the end of the Second World War. He is the all-time leading goalscorer in top-flight British football with a total of 550 goals in 547 competitive first-team games at club and international level. McGrory is a legendary figure within Celtic's history. He is the club's top scorer of all time with 522 goals from 501 games and holds their record for the most goals in a season, with 62 goals from 46 games in the 1927–28 season. He has also notched up a British top-flight record of 55 hat-tricks, 48 coming in League games and 7 from Scottish Cup ties. Garngad
Royston/Roystonhill is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde. It was previously known as Garngad and is still known as such by residents with a familial link to the area. It is notable for its large population of immigrants, mostly of Irish Catholic descent, with an annual St Patrick's Day Festival. There are few vestiges of the old Roystonhill in evidence these days other than a few street names, some street having succumbed to development. The church steeple has been converted into a tower monument and the church hall carries on its service as a local community centre. The former convent has been relocated in the Robroyston area. The previous stigma of deprivation earned in its slum years, has largely been shed with the recent program of newbuild housing and renovations to social housing.
