St Joseph's Secondary School, Fiji
St Joseph's Secondary School is an all-girls school located in Suva, Fiji. The school was founded in 1956 and has established itself as one of the top schools around the country, progressing in the fields of academics and sports. The counterpart school for boys is Marist Brothers High School History St Joseph's Secondary School's history began in September 1888 when four pioneer sisters were missioned to Fiji at the invitation of Bishop Vidal to provide education for the people of Fiji. The sisters were Mother Martin and Sister (Sr) Tarcisius Mongin of France, Sr Mary of the Holy Name of Ireland and Sr Frances Chambers of Newfoundland, Canada All three sisters are buried in the old Suva Cemetery. Suva () is the capital and largest city of Fiji. It is the home of the country's largest metropolitan area and serves as its major port. Lagamu Vuiyasawa
Adi Lagamu Lewaturaga Vuiyasawa is a Fijian businesswoman and former politician. On 4 November 2005, she was appointed to the Senate to complete the unexpired term of her de facto husband, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, who forfeited his seat owing to his imprisonment on charges related to his role in an army mutiny that followed the Fiji coup of 2000. Vuiyasawa became one of 9 nominees of Prime Minister in the 32-member Senate; another 8 are chosen by the Leader of the Opposition, 1 by the Council of Rotuma, and 14 by the Great Council of Chiefs. Her appointment was made retrospective to 20 October. Her career in the Senate came to an end with the military coup of 5 December 2006. Shireen Lateef
Shireen Rexina Lateef was a Fijian women's rights activist, known for her work on gender equality at the Asian Development Bank. Biography Shireen Lateef was born in Fiji and was of Indo-Fijian descent. After studying at St. Joseph's Secondary School in Fiji, she traveled to Australia to pursue higher education. She attended Monash University, graduating with a Ph.D. in social anthropology and education, which included significant fieldwork among Indo-Fijian women in the Fijian capital, Suva. She then spent nine years as a lecturer at the University of Melbourne. Lateef was a longtime gender equality activist, considered an inspiration behind the feminist movement in Fiji. The 2015 Pacific Games, also known as Port Moresby 2015 or POM 2015, was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from 4 to 18 July 2015.
