St. John Henry Newman Catholic High School (also known as SJHNCHS, St. John Henry Newman CHS, St. John Henry Newman, colloquially referred to as Newman) is a Roman Catholic high school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was formerly known under its original name Cardinal Newman Catholic High School until 2011 and Blessed Cardinal Newman Catholic High School until 2019. It is located in the district of Scarborough, administered by the Toronto Catholic District School Board. The school was founded in 1973 when the St. Augustine's Seminary decided to make use of extra classroom space as a result of its own declining student enrolment. The school was named after Saint John Henry Newman, a 19th-century English convert to Catholicism and prolific author. Located on a campus, St. John Henry Newman Catholic High School overlooks a broad vista that contains both the Scarborough Bluffs and Lake Ontario. Noah Smith Daniel Skirrow (born July 21, 1998) is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Skirrow is from Cambridge, Ontario, and was raised in Stoney Creek. He attended Cardinal Newman Catholic School. He also played for the Ontario Blue Jays of the Premier Baseball League of Ontario. Skirrow enrolled at Liberty University and played college baseball for the Liberty Flames for three years. As a sophomore, he led the Atlantic Sun Conference in strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Ryan O'Reilly (born February 7, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and captain of the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres. Dominic Oppong (born January 21, 1986) is a Ghanaian-born Canadian former soccer player. Career College and Amateur Oppong grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, attended St John Henry Newman CHS (Cardinal Newman CHS at the time), and played two years of college soccer at the University of Cincinnati, before transferring to the University at Buffalo prior to his junior year. Michael Duco (born July 8, 1987) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Duco played 18 games in the National Hockey League with the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks between 2009 and 2012, spending most of his professional career in the minor-league American Hockey League and ECHL.
