St. Elizabeth Hospital, officially Ascension Northeast Wisconsin St. Elizabeth Hospital, is a hospital founded in 1899 that serves the south side of Appleton, in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. Its emergency department is a level III trauma center. History St. Elizabeth Hospital was founded at the behest of Bishop Sebastian Gebhard Messmer of Green Bay. Four women from the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in St. Louis came to Appleton. The hospital the four women founded began in 1899 in an 11-room wooden house. It quickly outgrew that location. New land was purchased and a larger brick building on that site constructed in 1900. In January 2022, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Appleton was granted a temporary injunction against St. Elizabeth and Ascension after it hired seven of the 11 members of Theda's stroke care team who had applied to St. Elizabeth and been offered better pay and hours. Outagamie County is a county in the northeast region of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 190,705. Its county seat is Appleton. Sebastian Gebhard Messmer (August 29, 1847 – August 4, 1930) was a Switzerland, Swiss-born prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop (Catholic Church), bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, Diocese of Green Bay (1892–1903) and Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Archdiocese of Milwaukee (1903–1930). ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Appleton, formerly ''Appleton Medical Center'' (1984–2015), and ''Appleton Memorial Hospital'' (1958–1984), serves the northern side of the city of Appleton, Wisconsin. The hospital was chartered by the State of Wisconsin in 1949. After a 12-year fundraising effort, Appleton Memorial Hospital opened in 1958. The hospital was renamed Appleton Medical Center in 1984. In 1987, this hospital merged financially with ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Neenah to form the Novus Health Group, now called ThedaCare. WBAY-TV (channel 2) is a television station in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States, affiliated with ABC and owned by Gray Television. The station's studios are located on South Jefferson Street in downtown Green Bay (across from the historic Brown County Courthouse), with a Fox Cities news bureau on College Avenue on the west side of Appleton, just south of Fox River Mall; its transmitter is located in Ledgeview, Wisconsin. Mercy Medical Center, officially Ascension Northeast Wisconsin Mercy Hospital, is a hospital founded in 1891 that serves the city of Oshkosh, in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Its emergency department is a level III trauma center. History Mercy Medical Center was founded by Father Roman Scholter, pastor of St. Mary's Church in 1891. He convinced the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother to come to Oshkosh and start St. Mary's Hospital. In 1895 the hospital moved into a four-story facility on the corner of Merritt and Boyd Streets which could accommodate 26 patients. In 1918, St. Mary's bought Lakeside Hospital on the other side town which they renamed as Mercy Hospital. The current building opened in 2000.
