St. Catherine Cathedral, Cajamarca
The St. Catherine Cathedral ( es, Catedral de Santa Catalina) also called Cajamarca Cathedral It is the main temple of the Catholic Church in the city of Cajamarca in Peru. Built in Baroque style it is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Cajamarca, and was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Peru in 1972. In the seventeenth century the construction of the current building starts. In the eighteenth century they are melted the bells of the cathedral. Since 1908 holds the rank cathedral. Cajamarca (), also known by the Quechua name, ''Kashamarka'', is the capital and largest city of the Cajamarca Region as well as an important cultural and commercial center in the northern Andes. It is located in the northern highlands of Peru at approximately 2,750 m (8,900 ft) above sea level in the valley of the Mashcon river. Baroque Style
The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. In the territories of the Spanish and Portuguese empires including the Iberian Peninsula it continued, together with new styles, until the first decade of the 19th century.
