St. Augustine's College (Bahamas)
Saint Augustine's College is a Bahamian Secondary School for grades 7 through 12. It was founded in January 1945 by Reverend Frederic U. Frey on Bernard Road on the island of New Providence, The Bahamas. St. Augustine's College is one of the premier high schools for education and sports in the Bahamas, with numerous honors and awards for the academic achievements of the institution's students, as well as several champions from its athletics department. It's athletic department's mascot, aptly titled "The Big Red Machine", is depicted by a red steam train racing down train-tracks. The Big Red Machine as of 2020 has won 31 BAISS track and field championships. Wendy Craigg
Wendy Craigg is an economist from the Bahamas. From 2005 to 2015, she was governor of the Central Bank of the Bahamas. She is the first woman to hold this post. She subsequently served as a special advisor to the government of the Bahamas and chair of the Bahamas Civil Aviation Authority. Education Craigg attended St Augustine's College, and later graduated with a BA in economics and business from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City. She later earned an MBA at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and an MA in economics from Fordham University in New York City. She has also attended additional sector training run by the International Monetary Fund and Swiss National Bank. The Central Bank of The Bahamas is the reserve bank of The Bahamas based in the capital Nassau. The bank was established on 1 June 1974 but traces its origins to the currency board established in 1919. The bank carries out the independent monetary policy and supervision of the financial sector of The Bahamas. History Currency Board In 1919, the British Government established the Board of Commissioners of Currency to issue local Bahamian currency pegged to the pound sterling. The Board helped promote the Bahamas' emergence as an international currency trading and banking center during the 1960s and 70s. By December 1967, there were 208 banks and trust companies in the Bahamas, up from only 37 in 1963. By 1974, there were 323. Shaunae Miller-Uibo
Shaunae Miller-Uibo (born 15 April 1994) is a Bahamian track and field sprinter who competes in the 200 and 400 metres. She is a two-time Olympic champion after winning the women's 400 metres at the 2016 Rio Olympics and again at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is the 2022 World champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships Miller-Uibo won silver medals in the 400 m in 2015 and 2019, and a bronze at the 200 m in 2017 when she also placed fourth at her longer distance. In 2022, she won her first world outdoor and indoor 400 m titles. She holds North American records in the 400 m both outdoors and indoors, set in October 2019 and February 2021 respectively. Anthonique Strachan (; born 22 August 1993) is a Bahamian sprinter, is the 2012 100m and 200m World Junior Champion. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics, in 200 m. and 4 × 400 m relay Career She attended St. Augustine's College in Nassau, Bahamas, and trained with Club Monica Athletics. She trained in Auburn, Alabama under coach Henry Rolle who also coached Kerron Stewart, Darrel Brown and Marc Burns, before moving to Kingston, Jamaica to train with MVP Track and Field Club under coach Stephen Francis. At the 2011 CARIFTA Games, she won two gold medals (100 metres in 11.38s (−0.8 m/s), and 200 metres in 23.17s (0.0 m/s)) in the junior (U-20) category equalling Veronica Campbell's 200 metres games record of 22.93s (1.1 m/s) in the heats.
