St. Ansgar Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in St. Ansgar, Iowa. It is mostly in Mitchell County with a portion in Worth County. In addition to St. Ansgar, Grafton, Stacyville, and Mona are within the district borders. In 2019, it, with the Northwood-Kensett Community School District, began an agreement to share superintendents. The St. Ansgar board approved the agreement in April of that year on a 4-1 basis. Northwood-Kensett Community School District
The Northwood-Kensett Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Northwood, Iowa. The district is completely within Worth County, and serves Northwood, Kensett and the surrounding rural areas. Michael Crozier became the superintendent of the Northwood-Kensett Community School District in 2013, and suffered a heart attack a week after moving to Northwood. In 2019, the district entered a superintendent sharing agreement with St. Ansgar Community School District, and Mr. Crozier now splits his time between the two districts. Background In the early 1900s the state had 4,873 school districts. The state government passed the Consolidated School of Law of 1906 and this figure fell to 4,863 in 1908, 4,839 in 1922,. and 4,558 in 1953. That year some additional laws were passed that contributed to reducing this further, and so this fell further to 458 as of July 1, 1965; that year another law made providing a high school mandatory for a school district, which meant school districts that had one room schoolhouses were required to consolidate.
