St-Pierre-Jolys
St-Pierre-Jolys (formerly ''Rivière-aux-Rats''/Rat River, ''St-Pierre''/St. Pierre) is a village in the Canadian province of Manitoba, located southeast of Winnipeg on Highway 59 near the Rat River. It is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, and the nearest communities to it are Steinbach, St. Malo, Morris and Niverville. Agriculture is the dominant industry: primarily dairy farming and livestock. Being important sectors for the life of the community, the local businesses, services, and hospitality are strong. Provincial Trunk Highway 59 (PTH 59) is a major provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the Lancaster-Tolstoi Border Crossing (where it meets with U.S. Highway 59), through the city of Winnipeg, north to 8th Avenue in Victoria Beach on Lake Winnipeg. Route description PTH 59 is a four-lane at-grade expressway from Provincial Road 210 south of Île-des-Chênes, through Winnipeg, to the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, except for a two-kilometre section of six-lane road between the North Perimeter Highway (PTH 101) and Provincial Road 202. ''We Were Children'' is a 2012 Canadian documentary film about the experiences of First Nations children in the Canadian Indian residential school system. Directed by Tim Wolochatiuk and written by Jason Sherman, the film recounts the experiences of two residential school survivors: Lyna Hart, who was sent to the Guy Hill Residential School in Manitoba at age 4; and Glen Anaquod, who was sent to the Lebret Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. ''We Were Children'' combines interviews with the two with dramatic recreations of their experiences. Theodore J. "Ted" Falk (born May 23, 1960) is a Canadian politician, who currently represents the electoral district of Provencher in the House of Commons of Canada. The Rat River (french: Rivière aux Rats) is a tributary of the Red River of the North in southern Manitoba, Canada. It is part of the watershed of Hudson Bay (via Red River, Lake Winnipeg, and the Nelson River). The river is found between the Roseau River and Seine River on the eastern side of the Red River. It flows east to west through the rural municipalities of Piney, La Broquerie, Stuartburn, Hanover, De Salaberry, Emerson - Franklin, and Ritchot, as well as the village of St-Pierre-Jolys. Upper Fort Garry
Fort Garry, also known as Upper Fort Garry, was a Hudson's Bay Company trading post at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in what is now downtown Winnipeg. It was established in 1822 on or near the site of the North West Company's Fort Gibraltar established by John Wills in 1810 and destroyed by Governor Semple's men in 1816 during the Pemmican War. Fort Garry was named after Nicholas Garry, deputy governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. It served as the centre of fur trade within the Red River Colony. In 1826, a severe flood destroyed the fort. It was rebuilt in 1835 by the HBC and named Upper Fort Garry to differentiate it from "the Lower Fort," or Lower Fort Garry, 32 km downriver, which was established in 1831.
