Srinagarindra District
Srinagarindra ( th, ศรีนครินทร์, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Phatthalung province, southern Thailand. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Si Banphot, Khuan Khanun, Mueang Phatthalung, and Kong Ra of Phattalung Province; Yan Ta Khao and Na Yong of Trang province. History The minor district ('' king amphoe'') was established on 26 June 1996, when it was split off from Mueang Phatthalung district. The new district became effective on 15 July 1996. At first named Chumphon after the main ''tambon'', it was renamed Srinagarindra on 30 December 1996. On 15 May 2007, all 81 minor districts were upgraded to full districts. On 24 August, the upgrade became official. Administration The district is divided into four sub-districts (''tambons''), which are further subdivided into 42 villages (''mubans''). Thesaban
Thesaban ( th, เทศบาล, , ) are the municipalities of Thailand. There are three levels of municipalities: city, town, and sub-district. Bangkok and Pattaya are special municipal entities not included in the ''thesaban'' system. The municipalities assume some of the responsibilities which are assigned to the districts (''amphoe'') or communes (''tambon'') for non-municipal (rural) areas. Historically, this devolution of central government powers grew out of the Sukhaphiban () sanitary districts first created in Bangkok by a royal decree of King Chulalongkorn in 1897. Muban
Muban ( th, หมู่บ้าน; , ) is the lowest administrative sub-division of Thailand. Usually translated as 'village' and sometimes as 'hamlet', they are a subdivision of a tambon (subdistrict). , there were 74,944 administrative mubans in Thailand. As of the 1990 census, the average village consisted of 144 households or 746 persons. Nomenclature ''Muban'' may function as one word, in the sense of a hamlet or village, and as such may be shortened to ''ban''. ''Tambon'' ( th, ตำบล, ) is a local governmental unit in Thailand. Srinagarindra
Princess Srinagarindra ( th, ศรีนครินทรา; ; 21 October 1900 – 18 July 1995) née Sangwan Talapat ( th, สังวาลย์ ตะละภัฏ; ) was a member of the Royal Thai Family and the House of Mahidol, which is descended from the Chakri Dynasty and was originated by Prince Mahidol Adulyadej. She was the mother of Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Princess of Naradhiwas, King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII), and King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and was the paternal grandmother of King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X). Her formal name and title was Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani ( th, สมเด็จพระศรีนครินทราบรมราชชนนี). King Amphoe
An amphoe (sometimes also ''amphur'', th, อำเภอ, )—usually translated as "district"—is the second level administrative subdivision of Thailand. Groups of ''amphoe'' or districts make up the provinces, and are analogous to counties. The chief district officer is ''Nai Amphoe'' (). ''Amphoe'' are divided into ''tambons'', ( th, ตำบล), or sub-districts. Altogether Thailand has 928 districts, including the 50 districts of Bangkok, which are called '' khet'' (เขต) since the Bangkok administrative reform of 1972. The number of districts in provinces varies, from only three in the smallest provinces, up to the 50 urban districts of Bangkok. Also the sizes and population of districts differ greatly.
