Squigglevision
Squigglevision is a method of computer animation in which the outlines of shapes are made to wiggle and undulate, emulating the effect of sketchily hand-drawn animation. Tom Snyder of Tom Snyder Productions invented the technique, which his animation studio Soup2Nuts subsequently used in ''Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist'', '' Dick and Paula Celebrity Special'', '' Home Movies'', ''O'Grady'', and '' Science Court''. Compared with traditional animation, Squigglevision is relatively fast and easy to produce. The non-stop motion of the "squiggling" outlines reduces the need for more complex animations in order to make a scene feel dynamic. Tom Snyder describes the result as "economy of motion". Science Court
''Science Court'' (retitled ''Squigglevision'' in 1998) is an educational entertainment, animation/ non-traditional court show from Tom Snyder Productions, which was aired on ABC's Disney's One Saturday Morning block from 1997 to 2000. The cartoon was "filmed" in Squigglevision. Development ''Science Court'' utilized the limited-animation Squigglevision as its style of animation. In 1998, ''Science Court'' was renamed to ''Squigglevision'' in its second to third seasons. Tom Snyder Productions has released twelve of the episodes into a series of educational CD-ROMs with accompanying workbooks and experiment kits for schools. ''Home Movies'' is an American television sitcom created by Brendon Small and Loren Bouchard. The show centers on an eight-year-old aspiring filmmaker, also named Brendon Small, who makes homemade film productions in his spare time with his friends Melissa Robbins and Jason Penopolis. He lives with his divorced mother Paula and his adopted baby sister Josie. He develops a skewed father-son-like relationship with his alcoholic, short-tempered soccer coach, John McGuirk. Tom Snyder (animator)
Tom Snyder (born 1949) is an American animator, writer and producer known for the Squigglevision animation technique. His first success with this method was ''Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist'', starring Jonathan Katz. Snyder is a graduate of Swarthmore College, and as an educator he was inducted into the Association of Educational Publishers Hall of Fame. His educational work includes the series ''Science Court'' and educational computer software, such as FASTT Math. Since stepping down as chairman of "Tom Snyder Productions" he has worked on music composition and writing. In 2011, Snyder teamed up again with Jonathan Katz to create an animated web series, ''ExplosionBus.com'' In 2016, he released a new category of audiobook called an AudioMusical. Dick And Paula Celebrity Special
''The Dick and Paula Celebrity Special'' is an adult animated series that aired on FX in 1999. The premise of the show was that Dick and Paula hosted a talk show where famous individuals, usually deceased, talked about their work or what made them widely known. The guest list included Charles Darwin, Marquis de Sade, Oedipus Rex, and Lewis and Clark, among many others. Accompanying the two hosts was a Paul Shaffer-esque keyboard player. This premise bears similarities with that of Steve Allen's ''Meeting of Minds''. Richard Condie, (born 1942) is a Canadian animator, filmmaker, musician and voice actor. Condie is best known for his 1985 animated short ''The Big Snit'' at the National Film Board of Canada and has won six international awards for ''Getting Started'' in 1979. Condie lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Education and career Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Condie moved to Winnipeg at the age of four. There he attended Kelvin High School, graduating in 1961. He received his Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Manitoba in 1967.
