Squeaky Wheel Buffalo Media Arts Center
Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center (Buffalo Media Resources INC) is an artist-run, non-profit, media arts center based in Buffalo, New York. Founded in 1985, the organization provides the Western New York region with low-cost media equipment rentals, media arts education for youth and adults, residencies for artists and researchers, and exhibitions, screenings, and other public programming. Working Artists and the Greater Economy (W.A.G.E.) is a New York-based activist group and non-profit organization whose stated advocacy mission is "to establish sustainable economic relationships between artists and the institutions that contract our labor, and to introduce mechanisms for self-regulation into the art field that collectively bring about a more equitable distribution of its economy". W.A.G.E. was founded in 2008 with the writing of the wo/manifesto by a group of artists, performers, and independent curators in New York City. The group, which has included A.K. Kathy High
Kathryn High (born 1954) is an American interdisciplinary artist, curator, and scholar known for her work in BioArt, video art and performance art. Background Kathy High graduated with a BA from Colgate University in 1976 and an MAH from the Center for Media Studies at University at Buffalo in 1981 where she studied with media pioneers Tony Conrad, Hollis Frampton, and Steina Vasulka . Sondra Perry is an interdisciplinary artist who works with video, computer-based media, installation, and performance. Perry's work investigates "blackness, black femininity, African American heritage" and the portrayal or representation of black people throughout history, focusing on how blackness influences technology and image making. Perry explores the duality of intelligence and seductiveness in the contexts of black family heritage, black history, and black femininity. Angela Washko
Angela Washko is an American new media artist and facilitator based in New York. She is currently Associate Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Washko mobilizes communities and creates new forums for discussions of feminism where they do not exist. Washko is the founder of the Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft to bring attention to and protest the sexist language from players in the game. Washko has been creating performances inside the online video game ''World of Warcraft'' (WoW) since 2012 in which she initiates discussions about feminism within the gameplay. belit sağ (born 1980) is a videographer and visual artist from Turkey, and based in Amsterdam. She studied mathematics in Ankara and audio-visual arts in Amsterdam. She co-initiated projects like ''Kara Haber'' (2000–2007) and ''bak.ma''. She has been a vocal opponent of censorship within Turkey through the early twenty-first century, publishing a widely read anti-censorship article in 2016.
