Spy Vs Spy (Australian Band)
v.Spy v.Spy, also known as Spy vs Spy, were an Australian pub rock band from Sydney formed in 1981. They became known for tackling political issues through their music, including racism, homelessness and contemporary drug culture. They were named after a comic strip, " Spy vs. Spy" in the US '' Mad'' magazine. The band's initial line-up was the trio of Craig Bloxom on bass guitar/lead vocals, Cliff Grigg on drums/percussion and Michael Weiley on lead guitar/vocals. v.Spy v.Spy's early music was ska-influenced indie rock, exemplified by their debut single "Do What You Say" on the independent Green label in April 1982. They released an EP ''Four Fresh Lemons'' in August. Their music became more straightforward hard rock for their pub audiences. Pub Rock (Australia)
Pub rock is a style of Australian rock and roll popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and that was still influencing contemporary Australian music in the 2000s. The term came from the venues where most of these bands originally played — inner-city and suburban pubs. These often noisy, hot, small and crowded venues were not always ideal as music venues and favoured loud, simple songs based on drums and electric guitar riffs. The Australian version of pub rock incorporates hard rock, blues rock, and/or progressive rock. MV ''Sygna'' was a Norwegian bulk carrier built by Austin & Pickersgill for J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi in 1967. It ran aground on Stockton Beach in Australia during a major storm in 1974. After its bow section was refloated, its stern remained beached and became an icon and landmark for the local area, until the visible remains of the wreck collapsed into the sea in 2016. History ''Sygna'' was built by Austin & Pickersgill, Sunderland for J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi. With a gross tonnage of 39,503, it was built in two halves which were joined in a dry dock.
