History Early years The area of present-day Hopkinsville was initially claimed in 1796 by Bartholomew Wood as part of a grant for his service in the American Revolution. He and his wife Martha Ann moved from Jonesborough, Tennessee, first to a cabin near present-day W. Seventh and Bethel streets; then to a second cabin near present-day 9th and Virginia streets; and finally to a third home near 14th and Campbell. Following the creation of Christian County the same year, the Woods donated of land and a half interest in their Old Rock Spring to form its seat of government in 1797. Adams is a city in Robertson County, Tennessee, United States. It is near the Kentucky state line. The population was 624 at the 2020 census. History The first settlers in what is now Adams arrived in the late 18th century. The Red River Baptist Church, one of the first churches founded west of the Cumberland Plateau, was built on the banks of the Red River in 1791. The congregation relocated to its current location on Church Street in 1898. Adams developed in the late 1850s as a station on the Edgefield and Kentucky Railroad (later part of the L&N system). Most of the city's early buildings were destroyed during the Civil War. The city originally incorporated as Red River in 1869, but was renamed Adams Station in honor of James Reuben Adams, who owned much of the land on which the city was built. Cedar Hill, Tennessee
Cedar Hill is a city in Robertson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 301 at the 2020 census. History Jo Byrns, who became Speaker of the House of Representatives, was born in Cedar Hill on July 28, 1869. The local elementary school and high school are named for him. In the 1940s and 1950s Cedar Hill had a population of about 700, with around 10 stores. The economy was based on services to surrounding farmers; the main crop in the area was tobacco. By the 1960s, crops were more diversified and more farmers had cars, enabling them to travel to the county seat of Springfield, about nine miles away. Also at about this time, the construction of the Interstate Highway System, namely Interstate 24 and Interstate 65, removed much of Cedar Hill's through traffic. State Route 161 (SR 161) is a north–south state highway located entirely in Robertson County in Middle Tennessee. The route's southern terminus sits north of a junction between U.S. Route 431 (US 431) and US 41. Its northern terminus is at the Kentucky state line, where it becomes Kentucky Route 102 (KY 102). Route description SR 161 begins in Springfield at an intersection with US 431/ SR 65 north of downtown in an industrial area. The route forms a broad southern arc that passes through the rural Middle Tennessee towns of Dover, Erin, Charlotte, Ashland City, Pleasant View, and Springfield.
