The Spring Valley Public Library is a library in Spring Valley, Minnesota. It is a member of Southeastern Libraries Cooperating, the SE Minnesota library region. The building, an example of Beaux Arts Classicism, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a single-story brick building on a raised Kasota stone basement. Beaux-Arts architecture ( , ) was the academic architectural style taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, particularly from the 1830s to the end of the 19th century. It drew upon the principles of French neoclassicism, but also incorporated Renaissance and Baroque elements, and used modern materials, such as iron and glass. Kasota Stone
Kasota limestone or simply, Kasota stone, also called Mankato stone, is a dolomitic limestone found in southern Minnesota, especially near the Minnesota River and its tributaries. This sedimentary rock is part of the Oneota Dolomite of southern Minnesota and is approximately 450 million years old (lower Ordovician Period). This particular limestone is rich in dolomite and magnesium, making it resistant to weathering, and it is thus widely used as a building material.
