''Sports'' is the debut studio album by American emo band Modern Baseball released December 2012 on Lame-O Records. Background ''Sports'' was written while the band members were attending college. The band had previously released the split EP ''Couples Therapy'' with fellow Philadelphia-based emo band Marietta and embarked on a short tour during the summer of 2012. ''Sports'' was recorded in the Free Studios at Drexel University, where founding band members Jake Ewald and Bren Lukens attended. The album was engineered by Ian Farmer before he joined the band himself. Looking back on recording, Ewald said "it was mostly our singer Bren doing most of the legwork 'cos we didn't have a real band yet". Release ''Sports'' was later released by Lame-O Records in December 2012. On June 22, 2013, a music video was released for "The Weekend". Modern Baseball (band)
Modern Baseball (MoBo) was an American emo band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consisting of Bren Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber, and Ian Farmer. The band formed in 2012 at Drexel University and released their first album, ''Sports'', on Lame-O Records that same year. Their following albums, '' You're Gonna Miss It All'' and ''Holy Ghost'', were released on Run For Cover Records in 2014 and 2016 respectively. The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2017. History Early years and success (2011–2016) Bren Lukens and Jake Ewald met in High School, when Lukens was interested in Ewald's twin sister. They ran in different friend groups, but found common ground through music. Their name was inspired by a book that Lukens and Ewald found in Ewald’s basement, titled “Modern Baseball Techniques". The Fest
The Fest is an annual music festival in Gainesville, Florida, United States, organized by Tony Weinbender, formerly of No Idea Records. It is a predominantly punk rock and pop-punk festival, though there are also a good number of indie rock, hardcore punk, metal, and ska acts. The Fest takes place each year on the weekend of the Florida–Georgia football game (around Halloween) held in Jacksonville. Light Years are an American pop punk band from Kent, Ohio. History Light Years formed in the year 2009 while vocalist Pat Kennedy worked at a Subway restaurant. Since then, they have released one full-length album and three EPs. In winter 2011–2012, the band went on a full U.S. tour with Pentimento. You Blew It! was an American emo quintet based in Orlando, Florida. The band was formed in 2009 by Tanner Jones, Timothy Flynn, and Matt Messore. Mixtapes was an American pop punk band from Cincinnati, Ohio, signed to No Sleep Records. The band formed in 2009, and released multiple studio albums before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2014. Lame-O Records is an independent record label based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded by Eric Osman to release Modern Baseball's ''Sports'', the label has been hailed as one of Philadelphia's best indie labels. History Lame-O Records was founded in 2012 by Eric Osman, manager of the band Modern Baseball, to release the band's debut LP ''Sports''. Osman funded the 300-copy pressing with savings earned working at coffee shops. Though ''Sports'' earned the label no profit, it quickly sold out and has subsequently been repressed four times.
