A variety of sports in Bahrain are popular and widespread. Association football is the most popular sport in the country. Other traditionally-popular sports include basketball, volleyball and team handball, handball. Sports such as horse racing, mixed martial arts and rugby union have gained popularity over the past few decades. The 2004 Bahrain Grand Prix (officially the 2004 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on 4 April 2004 at the Bahrain International Circuit. The Bahrain International Circuit ( ar, حلبة البحرين الدولية, Ḥalba al-Baḥrayn ad-Dawliyya) is a motorsport venue opened in 2004 and used for drag racing, GP2 Series (now FIA Formula 2), and the annual Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix.
