Standard Macedonian
Standard Macedonian or literary Macedonian ( mk, книжевен македонски јазик or македонски литературен јазик) is the standard variety of the Macedonian language and the official language of North Macedonia used in writing, in formal contexts, and for communication between different dialect areas. Several prestige dialects have developed around the major urban centers of Skopje, Bitola, Veles and Prilep. It was only in the 1940s, however, that the Macedonian language was able to be implemented, after being formally declared the official language of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. In sociolinguistics, a register is a variety of language used for a particular purpose or in a particular communicative situation. A loanword (also loan word or loan-word) is a word at least partly assimilated from one language (the donor language) into another language.
