Spirit Level is a music label established by Wally de Backer (solo project Gotye, and drummer in The Basics The Basics ( ) are an Australian band, formed by Wally De Backer and Kris Schroeder in 2002, later joined by Tim Heath. Spirit Level operates out of the converted Metropolitan Meat Market in North Melbourne. The impetus for starting Spirit Level was the realisation that one of their favourite American artists, Zammuto, was not able to get an Australian release for their new album "Anchor". They discovered Zammuto when they opened for some of Gotye's international shows. Gotye
Wouter André "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known by his stage name Gotye ( ), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his Dutch given name "Wouter". Gotye has released three studio albums independently and one album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. He is a founding member of the Melbourne indie-pop trio The Basics, who have independently released four studio albums and numerous other titles since 2002. His voice has been compared to those of Peter Gabriel and Sting. Gotye achieved breakout success with his 2011 single "Somebody That I Used to Know", reaching number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and becoming the best-selling song of 2012. The Basics
The Basics ( ) are an Australian band, formed by Wally De Backer and Kris Schroeder in 2002, later joined by Tim Heath. Their style has been described as anything from 'indie-pop' to 'rock'n'roll', though their records show they span a wide range of genres, including reggae, pop-rock, folk, country, and electro-pop. They are "recognised as one of Australia's hardest-working bands". With well over 2500 shows under their belt, their live performances are well known for their energy, sense of humour and proto-punk sensibilities. Double J (formerly Dig Music) is an Australian digital radio station owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Metropolitan Meat Market
Metropolitan Meat Market, primarily known as Meat Market, in Melbourne, Australia, is a former market building that also incorporates the Metropolitan Hotel. It was designed by George Johnson and completed in 1874. It has been listed on the Victorian Heritage Register since 1973. The venue has undergone many iterations and currently serves as an arts venue under the City of Melbourne. Zammuto is an American indie rock band, formed in Readsboro, Vermont, United States, in 2011. In April 2012, Zammuto released their debut album, '' Zammuto'', with the Brooklyn, New York-based record label, Temporary Residence Limited.
