Speed Skating At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's 1500 Metres
The women's 1500 metres speed skating competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung on 12 February 2018. Dutch skater Ireen Wüst, gold medalist at the previous Winter Olympics in this discipline, won the gold medal, Miho Takagi from Japan won the silver medal and Marrit Leenstra from the Netherlands won bronze, only 0.01 seconds ahead of her fellow countrywoman Lotte van Beek. On winning the gold medal Wüst became the first athlete to win gold medals at four consecutive Winter Olympics, exactly twelve years after her first Olympic medal in the 3000 metres in 2006, and with a total of ten medals, including five golds, Wüst takes the seventh position in the list of best Winter Olympic athlete ever. Wüst also became the most decorated Olympic skater in terms of the total number of medals. For Japan's Miho Takagi, it was her first Olympic medal. Gangneung Oval
The Gangneung Oval (Korean: 강릉 스피드 스케이팅 경기장) is a speed skating oval in South Korea, which was used for the speed skating competitions at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The building of the oval was started in September 2013. The venue consists of a double track 400 metre rink and has a capacity of 8000 seats. It has three floors above ground and two underground levels. Brianne Tutt
Brianne Tutt (born June 9, 1992) is a Canadian speedskater from Airdrie, Alberta. She skated in the 1500 m event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Just over a year before the Sochi Olympics, Tutt was run over by another skater as she stood waiting to do a practice start at the Calgary Olympic Oval. The collision resulted in severe injuries to Tutt including two broken neck vertebrae, fractured skull, two broken ribs, broken collar bone, hearing loss, Bells Pasly and a concussion. Despite this prognosis, Tutt would overcome most of these injuries with only hearing loss, nagging neck pain, and concussion symptoms as a long-term result. Natalia Barbara Czerwonka (born 20 October 1988) is a Polish long track speed skater who participates in international competitions. In 2010, she was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Olympic Games At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she was a reserve when the Poland team won a bronze medal in the women's team pursuit. Ida Njåtun
Ida Njåtun (; born 6 February 1991) is a Norwegian speed skater specialising in the 1500 and 3000 metres distances. She represents the club Asker SK. Njåtun won her first medal at a Norwegian senior championship in 2008 (then aged 16), and became Norwegian allround champion in 2011. Njåtun withdrew from defending her national title the following season due to illness, but came back to win four successive gold medals in the allround championships from 2013 to 2016, and again in 2019. Nao Kodaira ( ja, 小平 奈緒; born 26 May 1986) is a Japanese former long track speed skater who specialised in the sprint distances. She is the 2018 Olympic champion in the 500 m distance. Jorien ter Mors (; born 21 December 1989) is a retired Dutch speed skater on both short track and long track. She was the Olympic champion in the 1500 metres and team pursuit (long track) at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 1000 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
