Speed Skating At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's 1000 Metres
The women's 1000 metres speed skating competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at Gangneung Oval in Gangneung on 14 February 2018. Summary Jorien ter Mors became the Olympic champion, continuing the trend that all 2018 Olympic gold medals in speed skating up to this event were won by Dutch skaters. Nao Kodaira became second, and Miho Takagi was third, two days after her silver medal in the 1500m event. The defending champion was Zhang Hong, and the 2014 silver medalist, Ireen Wüst, was also competing. Wüst took an early lead in 4th pair, and stayed on top until in 12th pair Jorien ter Mors skated an olympic record, and the time of Brittany Bowe in the same pair was still better than that of Wüst. Gangneung Oval
The Gangneung Oval (Korean: 강릉 스피드 스케이팅 경기장) is a speed skating oval in South Korea, which was used for the speed skating competitions at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The building of the oval was started in September 2013. The venue consists of a double track 400 metre rink and has a capacity of 8000 seats. It has three floors above ground and two underground levels. Kim Hyun-yung (born October 19, 1994 in Seoul) is a South Korean speed-skater. Kim competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for South Korea. In the 500 metres she finished 24th overall, and in the 1000 metres she was 28th. Yu Jing (; ; born 29 May 1985) is a Chinese long-track speed-skater who specializes in the sprint distances. She became the 2012 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships, World Sprint Champion in 2012, setting world records in both the sprint combination and the 500 metres. Park Seung-hi (; born 28 March 1992) is a former South Korean short track and long track speed skater. She is the 2010 Overall World Champion. She won two gold medals and three bronze medals at 2010 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Olympics. Her sister is Park Seung-ju, a long track speed skater, and her brother Park Se-yeong, a short track speed skater. She switched to long-track speed skating after the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Hege Bøkko (; born 5 September 1991) is a Norwegian long-track speedskater, and the younger sister of Håvard Bøkko. Personal life Hege was born in Hønefoss in Buskerud county, Norway in 1991, but she has been living in Hovet, Buskerud her whole life. She has two older brothers, amongst them is Håvard Bøkko. Ida Njåtun (; born 6 February 1991) is a Norwegian speed skater specialising in the 1500 and 3000 metres distances. She represents the club Asker SK. Njåtun won her first medal at a Norwegian senior championship in 2008 (then aged 16), and became Norwegian allround champion in 2011. Karolína Erbanová (; born 27 October 1992) is a Czech ice hockey player and retired long-track speed skater. She won a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the 500 m event in speed skating.
