''Spectrum, 14th Century'' is an EP by the Canadian musician Owen Pallett, the second issued under the name of their project Final Fantasy. Pallett describes the songs as "fake field recordings" from the fictional country of Spectrum, which is also the setting of his 2010 album Heartland. Several musicians who play on the EP are also members of the indie band Beirut. Owen Pallett
Michael James Owen Pallett (born September 7, 1979) is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Under their erstwhile moniker of Final Fantasy, Pallett won the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the album ''He Poos Clouds''. Pallett is also known for their contributions to Arcade Fire, having toured with the band and been credited as an arranger and instrumentalist on each of their studio albums. In January 2014, Pallett and Arcade Fire member William Butler were nominated for Best Original Score at the 86th Academy Awards for their original score of the film ''Her'' (2013). From the age of 3, Pallett studied classical violin, and composed their first piece at age 13. Baroque Pop
Baroque pop (sometimes called baroque rock) is a fusion genre that combines rock music with particular elements of classical music. It emerged in the mid 1960s as artists pursued a majestic, orchestral sound and is identifiable for its appropriation of Baroque compositional styles (contrapuntal melodies and functional harmony patterns) and dramatic or melancholic gestures. Harpsichords figure prominently, while oboes, French horns, and string quartets are also common. ''He Poos Clouds'' is the second album by the Canadian indie rocker Owen Pallett, released on June 13, 2006, on Blocks Recording Club in Canada and Tomlab internationally. The songs on the album (excluding the fifth and tenth tracks) are loosely connected to the eight schools of magic in the role-playing game ''Dungeons & Dragons'', and the title track's lyrics ostensibly refer to the Nintendo video game series ''The Legend of Zelda'', as well as ''The Chronicles of Narnia''. Pallett has also said that the album is a reflection on how atheists confront death. The track "This Lamb Sells Condos" refers to the Toronto real estate developer Brad J. Lamb, who had previously used the song's title phrase as an advertising slogan. ''Heartland'' is the third full-length album by Canadian indie rock artist Owen Pallett, released January 12, 2010 on Domino Records. It's the first of Pallett's records to be released under their own name. Since the album was their first to be released in Japan, they wished to avoid generating confusion with the Final Fantasy video games from Square Enix, and to avoid infringing on any trademarks. Pallett stated that their previous albums will be repackaged and reissued under their own name at some point. The record was mixed by New York producer Rusty Santos. Beirut is an American band that was originally the solo musical project of Zach Condon. Beirut's music combines elements of indie rock and world music. The band's first performance with the full brass section was in New York, in May 2006, in support of their debut album ''Gulag Orkestar'', but performed their first show with Condon, Petree, and Collins at the College of Santa Fe earlier that year. Condon named the band after Lebanon's capital, because of the city's history of conflict and as a place where cultures collide.
